After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.

Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.

Well I bought it!  $100 not working

now where do I start looking?

It does nothing, but looks good!  power light comes on and that's all
'they said it was working last time they used it during Christmas ( holiday house)

It is like some Safety switch is tripped somewhere maybe from low water level?

I can't find any switch, looks well made inside.

    ....and you fell for the old "...they said it was working last time they used it..." Well, cant go wrong at the price regardless. If its not functioning there will be an electri-kill "inconvenience" in it somewhere meaning, someone let all the smoke out of the wiring.  I'll give ya 50 for it and will have the hole in the wiring plugged pronto! Well done.

    According to the internet the reset breaker is on the left side of the boiler but the only thing there is that little brown circle thing in the 3rd from the last photo with a + in it what is that?

    They wanted $500, but I told C-man to offer $100 or walk away.  Lucky for him they couldn't be bothered fixing it! That looks like a pretty clean machine, but it was from a holiday unit, so probably hasn't had the best of care cleaning wise.

    C-Man, Here's a parts manual, will be handy. http://www.partsguru.com/user/S20Parts[1].pdf Wiring diagram http://www.partsguru.com/user/Wiring diagrams BrainColorCode[1].pdf It's electrical, so don't go pulling it apart to "restore" it, just find the fault, get it checked out and use it. :)

    Great pick up C-man and good luck with it Classic machine - a friend of ours has got one and he knows I'm always eyeing it off just in case he wants to upgrade but ill be waiting a while because they just keep on keeping on

    No there not!  They used [] in their file names so stuffs up the HTML code for links, so you'll have to cut and paste old skool! :)  they are there, I took a looky. C-Mans in the building game, so might know a nice mates rates sparky to look it over.

    So is that a serious offer to help AM?  I know your busy though. :)  Mrs AM might kill ya for bring another stray home (coffee machine that is, no offence C-Man) C-Man, if you have a few $$ to throw at this, the quickest way might be to give it to these guys.  http://www.govtec.com.au/  Even if they charge you a fee to look at it, it will be fixed and they will check it over properly.  I've never used them, but they are THE sunshine coast repair guys.

    I thought that was what these forums is all about, helping each other I am not going to do anything too stupid like shock myself, I already did the with the SB haha I will try a few simple things like resetting it as I am sure no one knew how to do it from where it came from. maybe manually refilling the boiler as it had not been used since Christmas when it was running good. My brother is a sparky too.  Pretty cool looking machine, solid as a rock!

    That is a vibe pump A rotary pump is a little smaller than a car alternator if that helps with a visual perspective KK

    Update, I found a wire touching a pipe when I was manually filling the boiler it had burnt the insulator off so I separated them. fired it up now have heat and pump and steam! and 1.2bar boiler pressure! yipeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee  I was praying for something simple

    Nice.  Bargain of the year 2013 I would say! :) Just make sure it's well insulated again, and get your brother to look it over just to make sure it's 100% safe on the electrical side. FYI I can't believe how unprotected wires are in espresso machines.  I put some end caps on my element on Monday, because the ends where metal, but all the electrical wiring is exposed to the heat, no insulation or anything. Now you need to clean it.  Do you have any backflush detergent and a blind basket (basket with no holes)?  If not get some and give it a good clean before you use it!  It's going to be rather dirty I'm afraid.  I doubt anyone ever though to clean it in it's last home! :(

    i did a back flush with a piece of foam rubber it got the pressure up and a little dust came out I have been flushing water through it constantly and it seems pretty clean no taste to it anyway

    Looks like neutral line to heater element touching pipe to pressurestat. Surprising your RCD didn't trip. Also, those wires should normally be  silicone insulated and cope with high temperature. Maybe  it was chafing due to vibrations from the pump, then once they made contact, the arcing would cause some visible heat damage. Either way, machine was not as safe as it should have been. I recommend wires should be properly insulated and cable tied so they do not make contact with anything that might vibrate or move when machine is operating

    yes it is pressure stat pipe that the blue wire was touching the S24 makes my little Rosco grinder look pretty small now It is a Big unit.

    Thats what I reckon. If that blue wire has power in it at any stage - and it will, why didn't the RCD trip ?

    back from Lacehims he gave me some back-flush detergent a little in a foil (like a drug deal) lol gave it a couple of flushes, not really that dirty, don't think it had mush use. bless them for going out for coffee instead. :thumb:

    Be careful C - man. I would get it tested pronto and get your sparky mate to test your RCD too. A lot of them just dont work.
