After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.

Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.

Help with froth setting???

Hi,

I just purchased a Krups Orchestro Dialog (FNF2) and the manual is somewhat confusing when refering to the amount of froth it can make!

On page 7, In step 1 the last 2 images say that you should turn the valve to 12 o'clock and wait till the residual water runs out then press again one the steam escapes.

Then on the same page, step 3 says to turn the valve to 9 o'clock for more froth or 12 o'clock for less froth.

What i am unclear about is why you need to do step 1?\

    To be honest, i don't think much of Krups machines, so don't know them, but assume they ask you to do step one to blow out any milk residues and/or condensation, before you steam, which is pretty standard procedure. -L

    thanks for the reply lars. Is Krups a bad start to a good coffee? I had read that the model i have is made by Jura i dont know if that makes it better or worse?) ??? I wont be offended if people tell me i made the wrong choice, as the money is already spent.  But i guess i can only learn! ;D

    I don't know much about krups either, As I was given a breville barvista machine. I think I have mastered it and can now make loads of dense foam even with out the so called froth enhancer. Keep on experimenting and see what works and doesn't. I always throw the steam on and let it really get going before the jug goes under, clears the pipes and gets rid of cold water.

    This automatically make the froth, but as the manual says, it can make more or less with the turn of the dial! 9cups of cuppacino today and counting! (the joys of experimentation!)

    actually GLO, i was just talking 'in general'. In fact, if it's made by Jura, that should be a good thing, as Jura are generally considered the best of the automatic home espresso machines! -L

    I have to perform a similar step on my Sunbeam.  If you haven't used the machine for a while (eg you made a cuppa in the morning and now want one for lunch), you need to let out any excess water from the steam wand.  If you don't take this step, then the first 5 secs of "steaming" into the milk jug will in actual fact be adding water to the milk jug.  After this oocurs several times over the course of a day....your milk is going to be a little watered down.
