After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.

Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.

    Another photo update The deck planks are on and soon after we sanded the planks with 120 grit sandpaper to help the Cutek CD 50 to soak in quicker and easier Attachment not found.Attachment not found.Attachment not found.

    Yep, as I'm sure you're aware the SS twist shanks are dear as poison compared to gal with no real benefit in this instance. If I had some left over stock I would have given them to KK cheap but as I didn't, he gets gal. You can't see them under the coating anyway regardless. You have been corrupted by living too close to the ocean C-man :D :D

    I guess I am just used to using them, I have never even seen the gal ones before I thought maybe there was some kind of reaction between the finish/treatment or something. no big deal. nice job and looks great! I should do a building post when I build the second stage of my house, even have photos of the old beach house going down the road on a truck (sold it on ebay) ha!

    Never ? Really ? Wow. The stainless ones haven't been around that long at all. I like them too but unless its a coastal environment they really are overkill. They dont hold as well as the gal ones either as they are super smooth and shiny where as the gal ones are rough. I did a monster deck where the drafty specced SS nails and it cost a fortune (relatively) for absolutely zero gain. Once the deck is coated you wouldn't know what nails are there so speccing them for aesthetic purposes alone is madness. Still, the cost of nails is tiny compared to screwing the deck down. Would love to see more building related pics C-man  :thumb: :thumb:

    C-Man's building his own house so he should have quite a collection of photos.  The part that he's completed is amazing!  Plus he has the most amazing view from his coffee station!  He's a lucky man! I'm building a mini deck flat on the ground for my little man.  It will have a small fort on it, and a sandpit next to it and a vege patch next door for me.  Probably not up to your standards but hopefully it will work out ok. ;)  I'm just using timber sleepers, some decking and some fence pails for the fort walls.  Should be a fun project.  I just wish I had a tow bar for my car, having stuff delivery gets expensive, and my wife keeps changing the design which needs more wood!

    If you have a belt sander Lacehim take the sharp edges off the sleepers and give them a hit on the top surface to minimise the splinters. Sleeper grade timber is pretty ordinary so hand picking is the go -( if you have a tow bar). It would be great to see so C-man pics  :D

    This morning I went out and wiped down the deck to remove any access Cutek CD50 oil preserver, as I really went to town with liberal applications The hot days have helped to allow the Cutek CD50 to be absorbed into the timber as that is how this preserver works  Some photos of the before and after Attachment not found.Attachment not found.Attachment not found.

    Preperation stage for the broad walk section is complete Timber sleepers are sanded on one face for splinter free foot traffic,  and also treated with Cutek CD50 Attachment not found.Attachment not found.Attachment not found.

    Micheal- get all your list together with all changes once and for all then come by and we can take my truck to Bun-heads where I can get you my builders discount I have racks ion the truck and can carry up to 6m lengths they take forever to deliver and charge like a wounded bull for it too. I don't want to hijack KKs thread with photos, so I will start my own when I get a chance. I figured you guys would like the fact that I sold a house on the Bay of evil, when they took it away and there was just stumps left everyone would ask, what happened? I just told them the bank repossessed it.

    The broad walk is now finished except for a trim and a quick sand where required The timber is bolted down and then the holes were plugged to seal the bolts in Derrilex made the hole plugs from a piece of the same timber Some photos - Attachment not found.Attachment not found.Attachment not found.Attachment not found.

    I use "A Woodshed" at Darra Brett. Just down at Queensland Rd. Mind you, I hand picked every sleeper but there was a fresh pack and probably only 1 out of 3 didn't cut it. The sleepers were 2.4's but we only needed 2 mt which was good because they all had pretty ordinary ends. A good hit with the belt sander and then round the edges over with the router.

    A few more pics to add to KK's.  I whacked a tensioner strap under the whole lot to minimise movement and since KK's ipad is too big to get under the board walk I obliged  while I was down there tightening the tensioner.

    I just competed the blending of the old to new work It's the side area of the broad walk section ( see photo in above posts ) As it was a deep area I used some of the soil tailings removed during excavation to partly fill it in Then I used a weed barrier cover to prevent any weed growth Then I used  a mixture of 50mm on the bottom and 25mm on top of washed river rocks, as I have these on hand from recent landscaping work. Then I added some pre prepared timber step blocks made from the off cuts of the broad walk sleepers and embedded them into the rocks I believe that I have succeeded to blend, match & complete the finished look Still to come is the glass safety fence and gate KK Attachment not found.Attachment not found.Attachment not found.
