There are no bean cooler threads so I've started one! 8)

Show us your bean coolers, post up a how to make one, post photos, and tell us what you think about it, and how you could improve it!

I'll post up mine tomorrow when I get to take a photo! but my first ever was a bean cooler made out of a cardboard box, with a fan in the size from bunnings (the ones with a power plug), and the strainer from the pasta pot my KKTO came with.

Worked a charm! KK gave me the idea/knowhow, and it lasted a long time!

That's what I'm about to build Seeya Latte. Where did you buy your sieves? I looked everywhere a while ago and couldn't find any reasonably priced ones.

They are pricey if bought new Lacehim. I think mine was $ 30 squids or there abouts. But I had to have right then and there :rofl: :rofl:

I bought a cheap cake tin (the kind that you can remove the base) and attached a piece of fly screen that I purchased from bunnings. If that's any help?

Sounds like I need to trawl the shops. I've got some mesh that KK gave me, so that might be a last resort. The existing colander that I have will only really cool 250gm, so a bucket set up would be nice to cool bigger capacities quicker.

I have been using my downdraught cooler for 12months plus. I have found with the 200mm fan and dual mesh pans the cooling and extra chalf removal to be as good as expected. The miners screens are 2.5mm&5mm . Below are examples.

Hi all, Anyone remember seeing a post in a bean cooler thread (here or elsewhere) where the poster had used a plastic, two piece, threaded fitting to mount through the hole/s in the 20ltr bucket? It provided a one or two inch flange to support a connection to some flexible pipe. My cooler's pool hose connection to the hole in the bucket is looking a little worse for wear as the gaffa tape glue is deteriorating from the heat... I vaguely remember that it might have come from Bunnings. Something like this:

I've got 24hrs back in Perth next week and was going to grab a couple if I can find them. Thanks.

I don't remember the post but I saw fittings like that in bunnings in the Plumbing/bathroom section. I was in at the Rocklea store yesterday fro some threaded unions not dissimilar to that one posted.

Yep. Photos of current setup would help. I use various fittings for my home made dog dryers some of which use 38mm pill type hose. I can take photos later when I get home to give you a few ideas.

Ok thanks - sounds like a trip to bunnings should sort it out. Here's a pic of the setup. The top hose is sucking out of the roaster, and the bottom hose is connected to the vac. Inside is just a colander that originally came with the pasta pot set. I'm looking for one fitting that the pool pipe can slide over, and another sized so the vac nozzle can slide into...

Thanks, yes it was your post I was trying to remember! That basin drain fitting was the key - looks like it fits a vac nozzle perfectly.

My humble beginnings in bean cooler... maybe not as neat and pretty but my main concern was to let the chaff pass through the first colander and catch it in the second finer mesh (made of an upside down steel mesh food cover from wheel and barrow $12.50).

Yes the same I actually got my set from my father inlaw He used them for sieving sand ect Well he had them in his garage and wasn't using them any longer so I was gifted them How lucky an I KK
