After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.

Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.

  • My other half did the one at CBD College...... In the CBD funnily enuff...... TAFE quali as they are an RTO running VET training. The unit of competency you get is part of a Cert III in hospitality. She enjoyed it, found them helpful and informative.
  • tobys in Woolloomoloo, run a very good course. http://www.tobysestate.com.au/training/espresso-school/ a range of training depending on what level you are / want.
  • Look up John Doyle at www.coffeetraining.com He is/was a member here, wrote the book "Barista techniques" and is an excellent trainer.
  • thank you all, informative and helpful!
  • ok so  i ended going to one in the city that shall remain nameless i think, it was OK. BASICS indeed, but i suppose it was a beginner course but quite annoying they really didnt tell me anything i didnt know or anyone could find out off of the internet with a bit of time, the latte art was pathetic to say the least, im not sure if i was expecting too much or what, but blahhhh.......the good thing was they didnt mind if you went off and did youre own thing so i eneded ignoring what was going on and made use of the best thing out of the day, the commercial coffee machine, but looking back i wish i had of just spent that money on a  2nd hand commericial coffee machine, because even tho i got a certificate, aint no way am able to confidently go for a head barista job..........where to from here, nobody knows.......moral of the story is, you get what you pay for. thanks again for replies.

Might be helpful to others if you named and ranked them ..say out of a 10 score,..so that others can be better informed when choosing and avoid being in your situation. If it was a Basic introductory course, i am surprised there was any attempt at latte art ?
  • it was a barista and latte art course, but re reading my post i sound like a bit of a dick, and after a few days, i think the course was fine, a 6.8 out of 10, still cant give it a 7. it was what it says it was, i expected something else/more.
  • Hi Guys, It's been a while since the last post ion this thread, though there have been a few developments in the arena. As mentioned, Danes provide a good basic run though as well as The Coffee Gang and Toby's Estate. We are Black Market Roasters and are Specialty Coffee Roasters and have runs couple of sweet cafes. We have just started running Barista Courses in Sydney for new baristas looking to get into the industry. WE found it hard to find enthusiastic baristas who have basic skills and were willing to learn for our espresso bars. Our course focuses on the skills needed behind the bar for consistent, sweet and delicious shots. Then we move to texturing silky milk. We touch on theory, though as we only have 3 hours, we throw them on the machine and grinder and get them to make mistakes and learn. Love the coffee vibe on this site!! Angus
