After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.

Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.

worst job (a job without perks)?

UNMUNM

Just a throwaway line on chat last night but it got me thinking.

Most jobs have some sort of perks (perquisites) if you look hard enough.

Perquisite: A thing regarded as a special right or privilege enjoyed as a result of one's position

What jobs are completely without perks?

Sewage workers sprang to mind, but they can occasionally find valuables that, let's face it, are not traceable or  returnable, so they probably get to keep them. This then reminded me of an article about a sewage diver who  claimed the guy who had to hose him down afterwards had a far worse job than him. Would the be any perks to this job?

  • The only perk i can think of - is that the bloke that washes him down can be replaced with technology An overhead shower  :thumb:  KK
  • I think all jobs have perks, as a employer or business owner they are too many to mention but as a employee sometimes the best perk is when the boss pisses off early everyday  :D
  • i worked as a grave digger once, that didnt have many apparent perks, although as the main employee group is ex-crims there was quite a lot of stealing of rings etc from bodies.
  • Bet it kept you fit G. = perk  :D

Now there's a title to have on business cards. What exactly does a chicken consider to be a treat? A day at the seaside? What does the acting assistant manager actually do?
  • When I was 15 yrs old in Wellington, NZ I worked as a meat taster for an abattoir which had burnt down - we had to blind tastes all the refrigerated produce to see which batches had been smoke tainted ... I also had a job hand pruning 4 acres of boysenberry vines trimming the stems to below the irrigation lines which were between 2 to 4 inches off the ground - we got paid 7c per vine some were 20cm wide and some were only a few stems but after a week my hands were so swollen from RSI that I couldn't make a fist, as we're my knees from being permanently stopped all day And then there was the time I worked as an onfoot courier for a printing business in Martin Place - running trolley loads of print jobs around the city often up and down escalators with perilous loads Or boat building on the Gold Coast building the worlds largest catamaran for a professional gambler and being on a go-slow when he was on a losing streak, or all hands on overtime when he had money to pay for materials ...
