After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.
Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.
I forgot to post my last roast last week when @ Derrilex visited 1.1 kg blend 200 grams of Gautama Finca Santa Clara 200 grams of Brazil Pedra Redonda 300 grams of El Salvador Finca Alaska 200 grams of Rwanda Musasa 200 grams of Indian Monsooned Robusta Drinking it now and it is superb with milk KK
Today's roast on the KKTO is another 1 kg blend Changed a little in the blend proportions as noted below - purely based on beans I have on hand 100 grams of Sumatra Wahana Naturals 600 grams of Guatemala Finca Santa Clara 100 grams of Rwanda Musasa 200 grams of Indian Monsooned Robusta KK
A Christmas Eve roast is in order as running out of beans won't go down well Today's roast on the KKTO is a 1 kg 3 bean pre roast blend 300 grams of Brazil Pedra Rodinda 300 grams of Ruanda Musasa 400 grams of PNG Kimel Estate X KK
Today I did 2 back to back one kilo roasts on the KKTO Both are the same 3 been blend One batch to be split in two and gifted The other batch is for my espresso supply 600 grams of Guatemala Antigua Acate 200 grams of Sumatra Wahana Naturals 200 Grams of PNG Kimel Estate KK
Yesterday was a 2 kilogram roast to start the new year of.... 200gm Indian Elk Robusta 625gm Brazilian Allegre 625gm Colombian Bachue 625gm Sumatran Kuda Mas 625gm Honduras Minas all taken to first snaps of second crack for a friend. Today will roast another 2 kg for another. Roasted in the KKTO and coretto lidded 2 kg done in an hour. Beans from Bean Green. Bean cooler gave up the ghost due to old age and heat from the bucket affecting the operation of the blades. Time for bean cooler re-construction duties.
Today did a couple of roast from my BG delivery on the Behmor! 1. Mexican Triunfo Verde Coop, massive chaff thrower and I hope as the cupping notes say "Beautifully sweet with citrus and rich chocolate notes" come through! 2. I snagged 4kg of this gem as its been a while between drinks for me... Sumatran Gayo Speciality Organic... This is one super clean bean (on par with Wahana) and doesn't resemble a Blue Tak or a Kuda!!
Hi Jonty, the Mexican is gorgeous! My wife who likes chocolatey coffee loved it and it hit the spot for me also. Your right about all the chaff... There was so much of it in the KKTO cooling colander I resorted to doing the two colander and a fan trick to get rid of it! I never had much success with the Wahana but I think I may have been drinking it too soon. I remember tasting watermelon of all things. Go figure!
Roasting today on the KKTO A preblend of 600 grams of Guatemala Antigua Acate 200 Grams of PNG Kimel Estate 100 grams of Indian Monsoond Robusta Total 900 grams KK
bolivia green mountain and guatemela huehuetenango both on the gene cafe with a 4min preheat to 200C then both roasted for approx 14mins with the temperature capped at 230C, then I let the machine do its own cool down - which is a bit suspect I know, because of how long it takes, but I compensate for this by pulling the roast prior to the onset of second crack, and then the profile just nudges second crack usually during the cool down stage! its not fool proof but i have been able to 'set it and forget it' a few times with remarkably reliable results! The huehuetenango especially was bloody superb but I drank it all in two days - and the green mountain is just starting to hit its stride now! FYI both were roasted a week apart which seems to work ok coz I have prety much unlimited consumption while Im working! P
Did a roast on the KKTO today the biggest weight I have done to date - 1300 grams Just after I commenced roasting it started raining ( Actually pelting down) could not hear a thing inside the roaster could not even the motor or agitator due to the noise of raindrops on the tin roof ??? Anyway I just used smoke as a guide to approaching 1st crack ect then removed the TO and had a close listen to confirm Todays roast was 600 grams of Guatemala Finca Santa Clara 200 grams of Guatemala Antigua Acate 500 grams of a South American Bachue - ( label is not good ) Total roast time was 22 min 30 sec with first crack at 17 min 15 sec Overall a good looking very even roast
500 grams of a South American Bachue - ( label is not good )
KK - that would be Colombia Bachue - 18 screen Supremo. Notes your can expect...... FYI only.... sweet notes of cherry and pear with a bitter sweet balance from dark chocolate undertones. High grown, around Bogota in Cundinamarca, on the central branch of the Andean Mountains, with a perfect microclimate, the 'Bachue' is intense and complex. This is a bean well suited to a darker roast and consumed as a single origin. ** ** Information courtesy Coficom Trading P/L

That sounds Devine I will roast this one as a single origin on my next roast :thumb: KK

I can't hear any cracks in any case unless I lift up the oven. I also use smoke for clues. You,ll have to let me know how it tastes from that 1.3 kg batch. Wow.That's a big batch!

That weight was an accident I intended to roast 1 kg and got a phone call - when I returned I added more greens and thought that looks more than usual ? Weight was checked at just over 1.3 kg I was contemplating 2 roasts but I thought - Why not give it a go and see what it's limit is Longer roast - for sure, but really nice and even KK
Yesterday I roasted 200g Colombian Popayan Tacueyo to first crack plus 5 degrees. Filter/siphon roast 250g Colombian Popayan Tacueyo to cusp of rolling second crack for espresso. Should be interesting comparison
ok yesterday I roasted some: Honduras Cup of Excellence Lt 15, which I had given to me, and some Tanzania Villanova - which I purchased from GreenBean Wasnt overly impressed with the Bean Green Have to say that I wasnt overly impressed with the COE roast - little bit of discolouration, I put this down to either the packet of beans having sprung open, and / or there being too much chaff in the chaff collector, which may have impacted upon airflow But I'll resevre judgement until I actually drink the stuff! But the Tanzanian was an absolute cracker! I pulled the roast just shy of second crack at the first noticeable puff of smoke, and the colouration was perfect! Not only that but Ive been drinking it for two days now - and yes, its only two days post roast - but its been absolutely knocking my socks off! In fact Ill be roasting more tomorrow for schizzle! P
wouldnt you know it - I tried to repeat the same roast profile on the Tanzania today and ended up over cooking it! So I redid the roast, dropped the temperature back to max 220C for 14mins then ramped to 230 for a minute - and bob's your aunty! P
I have roaster industry guests visiting this weekend - there relatives work in PNG Yesterday I roasted for his visit some PNG 1 kg of PNG Kimel Estate Should degas and be just right for the double espresso they are expecting
A kilo of Daterra organic. This is one delicious bean. It's from these guys: www.daterracoffee.com.br Still got some left from a trip about a year ago..
Today I roasted on the KKTO - a kilo of Ethiopian Yirgacheffe Peaberry for review by member Moon I found a special reserved bag of Peaberry and thought it to be appropriate for this occasion Roasted to just before second crack Some will be sent to Victoria and a little kept for me to sample KK
I roasted a batch of Sulawesi Blue which came as a freebie with the Behmor I just got. It seems to have come up a CS9 on the old scale, and looks pretty consistent, so I'm hoping for good things.
Can't remember if I have ever had any Sulawesi beans Sounds interesting KK
Possibly unlikely KK as Andy has been supplying Sulawesi beans on CS for yonks. The Tana Torajah estates were the most common offered but Andy has been supplying the "Blue" now. I prefer Sulawesi to other Indo beans but I'm yet to try the legendary Java offerings others have raved about
