After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.
Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.
"DolceGusto" once again, all part of the process Sue, I've had much worse than pod coffee. Re the machine, when your ready ask for advice in the Espresso Machines forum http://coffeeforum.org.au/espresso-machines/
Will do Dry bean thanks. I have a reasonable idea of what I want although I would like a couple of other options to check out but they are proving rather elusive here :-[.

I had to fix that typo, it was bugging me :D. I have pretty much narrowed my choice down to either the Isomac Tea or Millenium. I would love to have a look at some Diadema and VBM machines before making a final decision but can't find any stockists in Adelaide- so if you know of any, shout out. I'll check back here later, typing with a sleeping 2 yr old over my shoulder is too much like multi tasking for me .
Hi Sue Nobody here would dare snigger at a multi-tasking Mum who autocorrects while providing toddler sleep and coffee research. You're my new favourite acronym BTW: MTMWAWPTSACR! It'll roll of the tongue of any 2 year olds who take a sneaky sip of your espresso! When you do research proper start a thread and ask the question what do I need!? There are things like water filters and back flush solution that cost a tiny bit more upfront but save a lot of money later. When it comes to shiny Italian machines (they're the best ones) the one to get is the one you like the most. It is fun to ask the question however and see the opinions fly!! Welcome!
Hi Brett . Ha, ha, sometimes these things just have to be done as no-one else will do them :P. I know I will need a few bits and bobs, particularly the water filter as Adelaide water is notoriously, well, crap to put it bluntly. I have started a new thread in the section that Dry bean suggested but am yet to get a bite. Perhaps the mere mention of the Icona scared them off . Hi Lacehim and thank you, it's nice to be here .
Hey guys, my names Lachy and i have really discovered a passion for coffee. Always wanting to learn and better myself. Currently working at 'Ballarista' in Ballarat, Victoria. I enjoy experimenting with new techniques and machines. Just bought a Cold Drip system and wanting to get that up and running. Any guidance or tips or general info will always be appreciated!

Evening Lachy' Welcome to the Coffee Forum. Sorry, I'm of no use re advice on the cold drip process, strictly espresso myself, I'm sure there are others here who will be only to pleased to offer assistance.
Hi Lachy and welcome, I am new here too. I have never tried a cold drip brew before although there is probably no excuse as a new cold drip brew cafe has opened not too far from me. I will be brave one day .
Hi Lachy, I've had good results using a 1:15 ratio of beans to water. I found the standard 1:10 a little strong for my tastes and I prefer lighter roasts ground course... Similar to plunger/Dripper. Welcome mate!
Hello all, I'm new here , but not new to coffee. Got serious about it when I retired a few years ago and found I had time to enjoy the flavors and aromas of good coffee instead of just making double strength instant to get a caffeine lift. I also found that I had time to tinker with various coffee related hardware, so I now roast my own beans in a couple of modified poppers and my espresso machines have had some minor mods as well. I'm currently into lever machines, mostly using a Pavoni Europiccola and a Gaggia Factory G106 at present, but a spring lever machine is on my wish list. Cheers, deegee.
hi deegee, welcome to the forum, many of us are in love with lever machines, in fact we've had a couple of super-active lever threads over quite some time... would love your input into any of those. cheers
Thanks for the welcome aboard. I have been doing a bit of temperature profiling of my La Pavoni lever machines and when I'm a little surer of my findings I will post them for discussion.
Id love that mate! I enjoy using the Pavoni occaisionally and I reckon I've got the temp thing sussed but it will be interesting to see if you confirm my suspicions. My data is quantified... I'm more holistic (lazy) in my approach. Welcome!
Hello everyone after many comfortable Sunbeam EM6910 years making ordinary coffee ordinary, then an interlude for a year or two with an automatic slurry machine, and now confined to a - gulp - pod machine - it's time to straighten my life out and develop an improved tasting experience with a decent espresso machine and grinder. So I'm joining the forum, and hopefully getting a few ideas along the way for making the correct decision in my current decaffeinated state. The auto machine was for my wife to use - but I still made most of the coffees anyway. The pod machine was a whim, and mildly successful taste-wise but not much of a buzzzzz if you know what I mean. And the Sunbeam was loud, steam was poor, and after replacing the electronics and coping with the rust, I sold it along with my Bezzera grinder. So I'm thinking Rancilio Silvia V4 package with Rocky, then I move onto an Expobar Leva, then I decide that the dual boiler Expobar Minore IV might be the better option. All that for between 2 and 5 coffees a day (more on the weekends). So that's me - approaching middle age (middle age is always ten years older than I am at any time) and a growing family (not yet old enough to appreciate coffee) and a wife who cannot function without a decent morning coffee (hence the dire need to get away from inferior solutions). Most of my morning coffees follow a bike ride - and are coffee-shop based. Well, that's probably enough for me for a first post. Looking forward to joining the chat. cheers Phil

Morning Phil, welcome to The Coffee Forum. Sounds like you have an interesting coffee journey ahead of you, you've certainly come to the right place for advice, we all have preferences, however most of the advice you get here won't have a commercial bias, have a read through this thread, started by one of our newer members Sue http://coffeeforum.org.au/espresso-machines/buying-a-new-machine/50/ it may well help with some of your questions. when upgrade time approaches ask the appropriate question and I'm sure the answers will be forthcoming.
Hi Phil and welcome . As Db pointed out it wasn't that long ago, a couple of months, that I was asking the same questions. I had a little DeLonghi Icona, which I can't bring myself to part with, and was thinking of going the Silvia/Rocky route. I figured I probably wouldn't be happy with that for long and then started looking at the Isomac Zaffiro etc. and again figured as a milky cuppa drinker that wouldn't do it for me so I ended up spending the extra on a HX machine and couldn't be happier with it :thumb:.
Hi Phil, welcome to the forum and thanks for your first post - yep, sounds like you need a decent dose of 'upgraditis' and on to bigger and better things! P
Hi Phil and welcome! Middle age, growing family... Sounds like you need a decent coffee machine You've come to the right place mate. I look forward to your contribution. Cheers!

I thought I'd already posted here, but I see that first posts are often deleted as an anti-SPAM measure (which is fair enough). I was posting via Tapatalk so it looks like I may not have gone about it the right way and my posted got trashed. So let's try again. I'm Leroy. I live in a small town/satellite suburb called Woodend that is about 15km north of Christchurch, New Zealand. I've been a member on various other coffee forums for some time, but as I get deeper into my coffee journey I'm always on the lookout for a new source of info. I've been lurking around and reading some interesting posts here for a few months and look forward to visiting more and more. Current coffee paraphernalia: Brugnetti Simona Top DE, Compak K8 Silenzio (Australasian model), Anfim KS, Sunbeam EM4800, Bellman CX25, Hario Skerton, Cona 'Classic' stovetop vac pot, Tiamo drip filter and a variety of smaller stovetop and filter brew pieces.
