After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.

Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.

    Hope you're all enjoying the Pavs! I can safely say that I know DB's machine has had a few kilos of mycuppa's Yirg through it. And I can say : excellent! I never strayed from ~14 g myself and a straight single pull. ~ 5 second pre infusion. Wishing I'd experimented a bit more now! Like the cup warming idea DB. I always used steam wand or hot water tap.

    I've always done a 10 second pre-infusion with mine and then a 20-30 second shot depending on viscosity etc.  Yirg is an inspired voice for this machine I reckon.  Darker roasts also work well but I've found need a considerably finer grind.  One tip: if you choke the machine and fear it sneezing coffee grounds over all and sundry, wrap a cleaning cloth/tea towel around the Bottom of the group and PF... Really bundle it up before removing.  I've saved my work shirt more than once with this method.

    Aah. One thing I can say. Never had a Pavoni sneeze. I always just let the dripping stop completely. And then some if it was a tight shot. My only misery has been with my Alex. Pf flying off during the shot. I see that it's been a problem for others too. It's like a sneeze, but with broken cups!

    I'd read that about Alex.  If it's any consolation the first shot I ever pulled with a Strega did exactly the same thing :(

    Yet to experience the sneeze SBM, was very wary, have heard others claim to do it regularly! slow learners I reckon. Like you, leave the PF on until drips stop, stands to reason, if you remove it while pressurised, sumtins gonna happen. ::)

    Only time it ever happened to me I fully chocked the machine and was in a rush thinking a slow release would alleviate the pressure gradually.  It didn't but because I had wrapped up the group head and PF with one of my microfibre cloths disaster was contained.

    For those who have not yet twigged, yes SBM was the previous owner of my LaPavoni, it was a real pleasure dealing with him, his whole approach to the transaction was honest and straight forward, he disclosed everything about the machine and its history, certainly no unpleasant surprises when it arrived, we had a number of phone conversations discussing the minutiae, consequently it all went like clockwork. The machine was almost as new condition, even though only a couple of years old had recently had new seals fitted, it came with a fitted Pullman tamper that has a very nice turned wood handle, see pic below. We took it with us on our trip over to Kapunda on the weekend, once I got the setting right on my Presso hand grinder it performed a treat, cappuccino's for my lady artist wife and shots for me, we were very happy campers. :thumb:

    Hi mate, I reckon like with many things you get what you pay for.  I've not had the pleasure of playing with those grinders side-by-side but the Rok had a bit of shaft movement in the one I played with.  The HG is much more sturdy.  Both are excellent, I prefer electricity.

    Whoops! didn't mean to ignore your query SBM, made a mental not to reply then promptly forgot about it :-[ The HG One and Presso are light years apart, I'm sure the HG One is vastly superior, the Presso is an adequate on the road grinder, having said that, its a pig to adjust the grind on, once set its ok, however I would much prefer an electric device, when I get out of bed I want coffee, not a workout. ;)
