After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.

Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.

Cafe Music Ideas

I'd appreciate some feedback on great cafe music - ambient, relaxing. Nothing upbeat, heavy or mouldy (as in old).

    You should try Brian Eno It is my favourite ambient music Also his collaborations with Robert Fripp from King Crimson Classical old from various composers but you need to look at Baroque music as it is classed as background music or modern as in Movie scores e.g. Elephant Man If you can get a hold of some Erik Satie circa 1920 its great type of background music, with an indefinite number of repeats. Always a pleasure to talk music KK

    I'll second that about Brain Eno.  Also look at "Freddie Hubbard" and, if you can find it, "the famous unknowns". 8-)

    Tosca, Cinematic Orchestra, Kruder and Dorfmiester, Air, Billi Holliday, Nick Drake, Everything But the Girl, Peace Orchestra, Basia Bulat, Herbie Hancock, Miles Davis, Betty Lavette, Dave Grey, Beth Orton, Ben Harper, Rufus Wainwrite, Dj Shadow. Dj Krush. A lot of stuff on "Good Looking Records", New Neil young record, Massive attack, Lamb, Tricky(???maybe a little heavy), Thievery Corporation, Groove Armada. I would Suggest looking at the "Ministry of Sound", "Chill" collections, and follow up on the artists you like off them. Hopefully their are some artists you like in there

    mate head to you're local second hand record store and say: here's my budget, this is my target audience / atmosphere I'm trying to create - what can you recommend? I've managed to pick up some real jems this way that I would've never had otherwise! Cheers, ACG

    There are other collections that are quite good for a cafe situation, like Buddha Bar and the Cafe del Mar cd's. I probably wouldn't want to have them going at home, but great for a cafe or bar situation! -A

    Whoever thought off putting out cd's with cafe in the title was a genius. Pity every cafe has the same music on. :'(
