After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.

Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.

what home roast are you enjoying right now?

for me at the moment its the PNG Wahgi AA - gee this coffee is good gear: its roasts like a dream, is very evenly graded, and drinks very well straight away (which is very rare for coffee which has just been roasted)!

Cant wait to get a bit of age on it!

  • Just getting into some Indian Mysore nuggets (he he gotta love that name), roasted some very light and loved it as a french press now just starting on some darker roasted as espresso but I think it needs another day or so to settle.
  • Well my png wahgi has come of age and is drinking like a dream - next up either some of those tasty nuggets or some Indian robusta!
  • Well... Managed to plonk the little ones in front of the tellie and shoot off a pretty reasonable roast of the Indian Robusta this morning - grading of the beans is very uneven which makes them tricky to roast but finished product managed to come up ok with aromas of citrus and dark chocolate filling the kitchen! Very nice!
  • Guatamala los Volcannes [excuse spelling] - very nice!
  • have been playing around with Kenya Gethumbwimi - superb!
  • Try saying that after a few beverages...
  • Brazil, Sumatran, Harrar blend--interesting espresso, great in milk!!
  • Monsooned Malabar, roasted 625 grams 5 days ago and its drinking very nicely now as either a double ristretto or a long black. ;D
  • Insert "like" button here!
  • Indian Plantation A Grade base, PNG Kimmel PB and Ethiopian Gambella Sundried blend. 7 days post roast--acidity up front, lots of fruit cake and cocoa with  a powerful lingering cocoa aftertaste  that hovered for ages, should settle more over the coming days.
  • Indian Tiger Mountain SO. 4 days post roast, tried it a couple of days ago and was somewhat underwhelmed however it's improved quite a bit since then. Drinking a long black made with it as I type. Cant wax lyrical about perceived flavours as Greenman so eloquently did, suffice to say it's very drinkable now and tastes like, well, very good coffee. :-[
  • managed to get a roast out this morning of some png okapa fresh off the boat - not to sure about the grading, which seems to have slipped somewhat with this last shipment, but the results in the cup speak for themselves As per usual had one kid stuck in the top of the wardrobe, and another screaming for me to turn on playschool, just as the roast was about to hit second crack, so I dropped the temperature back to 150C - and did a quick circuit of the house like a mad man, and put everything in place and then rushing the roast to the shed for a quick cool down with my industrial fan! Oh the joys and perils of coffee making !
  • I just roasted up some Ethiopian Yirgacheffe which I'll sample in a few days time. I don't know if this a 'chaffy' bean or not, but I think the Behmor struggled a bit with it, as there's a heap of chaff still on the beans which I haven't experienced with other beans.
  • How far into second crack were you lovey?
  • Good morning lovey, how is the behmor going in general? Where can I buy one please?

And ???  ??? the verdict, where did you buy the beans? I am a fan of South American coffee's. :)

I got these beans from Coffee Snobs and the coffee tastes at this early stage syrupy with berry notes & a chocolate after-taste We do however sell green beans on the KK  site http://koffeekosmo.com.au/index.php?page=shop.browse&category_id=8&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=37 But as they say - variety is a spice of life :) KK
  • I'm enjoying a blend of home roast coffees at the moment: Peru Ceju de Salva roasted to only the first snap of second crack, combined with some age PNG Okapa (by aged I mean two weeks post roast) In a word - delicious! P
  • In a couple of days my taste buds will be privileged to be drinking A home roast of Ethiopian Limmu Organic KK
  • Guatamala Los Volcanes Antigua - not home roasted [i tend to 'contract out'] from Ian's Bar Nine - very nice!
  • I have just opened a 12 day post blend of: 30% Monsoon Malabar 35% Mexican Finca Cassandra 35% Flores Research Project Mouthfeel as a short black is great. The Mexican is a little lost in translation, the Fflores gets a good show at the front of the palate and the length provided by the MM... Wow!  As a doppio piccolo latte quite bold and complex!
  • Currently I am drinking Brazil - Datera sweets Soon after a few more days degass Ethiopian Gambala Naturals KK
  • I'm currently alternating between Nicaragua COE 2010 and a 40/60 blend of Java Ijen and Java Kalistat - Both roasted very dark and both tasting great in the cup...
  • did 2 x500 grm loads of my take on the kjm blend this arvo . came out nice and even no pits no tipping nice colour very happy . now just wait a few days . johno ps its a girlie blend this , the wife likes it and i can use it in the shop for the people that ask for the coffee not to strong .
  • I am making my way through some Nicaraguan La Bastilla roasted in the Behmor and pulled right at the start of 2nd crack. Very smooth chocolate flavours with just a hint floral aroma. A nice contrast o my ongoing bolder blend mentioned previously.

Do I detect notes notes notes notes... Any Raspberry in there  ;D
Notes, notes I must have notes... I can taste the notes....  ;D
  • Just back from Dubai, and roasted up 1kg Brazil Ipanema Dulce (thanks for the swap with Bruce) 1 day post roast and I have to say I like it.  As a machiatto, I found it has a 'soft' sweetness, but I can't quite taste any obvious fruit or spice notes just yet. I'll keep tasting as it ages, and give it a go as an espresso too.
  • 1kg Yirgacheffe Harfusa.   Small green bean,  with a very strong grassy smell in the bag. Roasted slightly lighter than I would normally do; pulled prior to 2C, showing 210degs.   A light tan stripe down the centre of each bean. A nice even roast.   Left it for a few hours then couldn't wait any longer so I decided to give it a try. As a machiatto, it was quite floral or perhaps fruity, and a bit earthy.  I can see how it might be described as having lime tones.    The wife's immediate reaction (she tried it as a latte) was, 'that's a strong taste..'.  She was initially unsure, but it grew on her towards the end of the cup.   I like it, but can see it's not a bean for everyone. Quite drinkable immediately after roasting;  apparently the floral / fruitiness is supposed to fade after a few days.   We'll see how it goes during the week. The Ipanema Dulce from the previous roast has got even better as it ages.   A very nice bean that I think would have wide appeal when taken with milk.
