After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.

Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.

Laurentis Espresso Machine???

edited January 1970 in Espresso Machines
I have a friend opening a shop in Tanzania with limited resources.  I'm helping as best I can from The States.  They are using a Laurentis espresso machine.  From what I can gather it's essentially an Astoria, made by Sarah Lee, or something like that.

Anyway, is there such a thing as a Laurentis User/Operation/Maintenance Manual, or anything like that?  One, or something like it would surely come in handy for them.

Thanks

  • Yes it looks like another CMA machine. CMA makes San Marino, Wega and Astoria "brand" machines, and has also produced machines for Douwe Eggbert (?spelling) over the years. Look really, as mentioned in a roundabout way by AM, the owner booklet is about as useful as rocking horse poo  ;)  It is basically assumed, that anyone that buys / uses a commercial espresso machine, knows what to do in terms of how to operate it (which of course is totally wrong but that's the way it is).  In any case operating the machine (the assumed part) and making a good coffee are not the same thing. Maintenance for an owner is not much more than keeping it clean, backflushing the groups and programming cup levels on machines that have that function. But it takes us back to the point that owner booklets tell you neither of, how to operate the machine, or how to make good coffee, nor maintain it, so your friend is not missing out by not having one. They may tell you how to connect it to water and drain, they may tell you how to regenerate the old style water softener (if supplied), and if you are lucky they may tell you how to programme the touchpad/s. That would be about it. I do know people that can maintain their own machines, either because they just can/do, or because due to their location in isolated places, they have to. But that is not the norm. Now that we have explained the operational / maintenance (lack of) owner booklet thing in detail, I have to suggest that if your friend is in an isolated location, he needs to get himself "handy" on the coffee machine real quick. OR if he is in or close to a city, he may be able to do what most regular cafe owners do and build a relationship with a service provider. Not facetious, and I hope that helps. • Thanks for the quick replies.  I was sorta guessing they'd have to swim with the sharks on this one.  I've never seen a manual for any industrial machines I've ever operated, so I figured this would be the same situation too. Thanks again, I'll keep ya'll posted if anything usefully interesting comes about with this one.
