After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.

Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.

  • The pump on these Achilles is only used to fill the boiler, that's it.  It sometimes does kick in (just about everytime you do a video eh Dan!) but it's certainly not every shot and if you use HW or steam too, it can cause it to run more.  I does tend to kick in when you pull the lever though because it's drawing water out of the boiler. The Strega on the other hand uses the pump for prefusion. Even with the noisy pump which I'll have to look at one of these days, it's a cracking machine and I'm happy with it. :)

If you decide to use the machine with water tank, I suggest you remove the solenoid input, by doing so eliminate bottlenecks early, reducing the noise of the pump .." I noticed that on CS there was talk of making the solenoid bore bigger, but if the manufactures are suggesting to remove it you kinda wonder why they put it there in the first place!  ???

    I would sure like to see how they recommend doing that. I haven't opened up mine in quite a while (since I plugged it in) and have gotten use to the pump. In the summer, our water pressure sometime gets quite low, so I would worry about backflowing from boiler to my line. I guess I need to understand the P&ID a little better. d

  • Rather simple if you have a few bits and pieces.... 1:  One way valve (Existing) 2:  Pipe from top of Pump Inlet that has a fitting on the end that will also take the one way valve. 3:  Tubing to go from One way valve to Tank.  (Existing) Also easy to convert back, if you wish OR want to go to mains rather than Tank.   • And then unplug the solenoid? Or better to unplug the pump? In my mind I would like a manual switch so that I can use the sight-glass to fill when I wanted to. The thing I like the least about the 0996 is that sometimes it fills the boiler with cold water when I don't want to fill the boiler with cold water. Thanks! Dan

    I leave the Solenoid connected as at least then the connectors are all safe. If you were to want a manual over ride, then there are a number of ways, but why bother.  Water in the tank gets warm and only a small amount is added from the bottom, thus keeps things circulating. An should you forget, then you could burn the element out.

(I do that often) My machine is plumbed in, and the pump comes on to fill the boiler, even though I would expect that line pressure (generally) exceeds boiler pressure. It sounds like this is to use the tank as opposed to the line for fill. So, if I wanted to bypass the pump, I supposed I would do the same thing, in reverse, and THEN unplug the power to the pump. -Dan

    YES...  Mine is filled from the TANK not from Mains. I would NOT bypass the pump at all = NO...  But you could change the pressure in so that it fills at a much slower rate. In addition your mains MAINS pressure in should/must also be limited. You could still have a switch that disables the pump or tricks the system (tank level) that it is full.  Same outcome but you do risk burning out elements etc.

    If you have mains pressure > 3 bar< ,.. and a one way valve,..why not bypass & disable the pump completely ?   = silent operation !
