After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.

Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.

  • ok so im using a sunbeam cafe series em6900 rescued from hard waste and restored by myself - while my rancilio epoca is being serviced, and im using the sunbeam cafe grinder and resting my Mazer Super Jolly! P

  • I'm currently using the Breville Barista, though in the past I experienced to use the Gaggia Accademia. It was also pretty great but it's really expensive.

  • Dont know how I missed this. My current set up: Coffee machine:      BFC Junior ELITE (rotary pump / dual water connection ie mains or internal reservoir, but I choose the internal reservoir). Grinder:                  An older Macap MXA with cut down bean hopper to suit home use. Roaster:                  In use at work 60 kg Brambati, 5 kg Toper, double barrel professional 100g sample roaster, and 5 kg antique (c.1918)  Petroncini/Vittoria (nothing to do with an australian coffee company that took their name from the brand of roaster they first used in the 1950's...) Tampers:                Whatever I like the look of that works ok for me, but I prefer flat based over convex, and lighter rather than heavier; Other accessories:  small nylon bread board used for tamping, as well as swirling milk jugs, a 600 ml  milk jug, a group head brush that doubles as a filter basket leveller. Dedicated benchtop area. Using filtered water from undersink filter set up. Cups:  Only 2 for personal use, my fave cup and the wife's fave cup (dont anyone touch my cup  ;)). Traditional coffee/cappuccino cups for guests.

Coffee machine work:      LM GS3...not a fan.....will probably offload it by the end of the year as I've been thinking about something else. Coffee machine home:      To me it's priceless......KVW...can be temperamental.......but I love it. Took 6 years to find one. Grinder Work:                    Switch between Compak E10 Master OD, Mazzer Robur-E, Compak F10 master OD - all are newish. Grinder Home:                  2x Mazzer Kony-E's (newish). Roaster:                            Custom Proaster 30, Joper CRS 30, Geisen W15A - all profile-controlled. A new roaster on the whiteboard after I get around to selling the Geisen. Tamper:                            The Great Leveller Mk 2. Because my machines have a propensity to channel....or is it the operator perhaps......I'm always in a hurry and I love using massive baskets and coffee that is way too fresh !
  • Very nice mycuppa and  Fresh Coffee Hmmm Giesen 15 that might fit nicely in my place ???? So my list is not quite as impressive on the roaster front but I am working on it :) Coffee machine - 2 group slayer on one bench  Alex Izzo Duetto on the other {2 years in the Slayer is still an amazing machine} Grinder - Mazzer Robur E (hate it),  BNZ md74 (great for single dosing),  Mazzer SJ and Commandante II hand grinder (used for cupping and filter) Roaster - The Silver Streak 5kg Has Garanti fully pimped.  Proaster 1.5 (on order 10 weeks away) Tamper - Pullman Bigstep with spiderman custom logo Brewers - Cold drip, V60, Kalita wave and Brewover. All in the custom built shed in the front yard 
  • @ mycuppa how are you finding the Proaster now you have had her for a little while, any nuances with the brand? Some roaster setup photos would be nice from the two of you gentleman, Fresh Coffee would like to see the old Petroncini.
  • CC - RE: Proaster, I don't wish to comment publicly or privately about it as I'm sure my unique set of circumstances and experiences will be distinctly different to others - as will owners of other platforms and brands. There is already too much rubbish, gossip and bitchy nonsense circulating within the industry......mostly taken out of context or discussed by people who don't have any real idea what they are talking about. However, take comfort in the fact CRA are great at supporting customers (as you no doubt know already).
  • I also have two Behmor Plus roasters which in theory gives me 1kg combined roast output (although this exceeds manufacturer recommendations) plus 4x 3lt plus output cold drip coffee setups and 1 x 500ml cold drip coffee stations - combined with various pour over and hand coffee grinders, and a Hario coffee syphon, and a commercial grade deli grinder, in addition to my usual coffee setup - I use everything but the syphon on a regular basis - but now that I've cleaned out the shed and made room on the bench I'm guessing that might get a work out more often as well !

    Am very surprised to read you dont like the GS3, i love mine and couldnt think of parting with it unless of course it was for a speedster, and even then, not sure i would
  • John, It's a money pit that GS3 and like most LM's it's excessively prone to channeling and breaking down. Most over-rated and over-priced brand on the coffee market - quality is so-so and they are continuing to have problem with stainless.  My advice would be to avoid and look at other options. I've spent more $$ on it in the last 2 years than I care to remember - close to $3.5K just in repairs. Makes just 6 cups a day, 5 days a week. Have also got an Expobar Minore IV and it makes a beautiful coffee, ultra reliable and the heat-up time is fast - a better home machine any day of the week. There are moments when the Minore produces a superior cup to the GS3 - both have Mazzer conical grinders next to them. Thing is.......I actually know the differences in the cups between the machines, so it's not a flippant statement.

    Thats fair enough mate, i just havent had any dramas at all with my gs/3 (knock on wood) Mine is the AV though so not sure if that makes a difference compared to the MP version. I wont hold it against you, and still purchase my coffee beans from you  :coffee2:
  • Yeah John, mine is an AV as well. I had a client about 6 years ago with a 3 group LM Mistral which had a part KVM design concept in the paddle. So many issues, I stayed well clear of the paddle and went with AV. I’ve had a lot of problems with pumps, motors, boilers and brew valves, in fact 3x brew valves in 2 years. There have also been leaks, but these are all sorted now. It’s like a new machine inside. The thing with all LMs is that big $$ need to be spent eventually......the parts are like double the price of anything else and the durability is a bit lame compared to other brands I’ve used over the last 30+ years. I have a lot of LM gear ....won’t be buying any more. In the commercial space, they are past their peak......other brands are runnings circles around them. Synesso kit is so much better,  but they don’t have a GS3 killer........yet.
  • It’s an interesting space the prosumer/high-end domestic single group my other ride is a Beamer space. There’s interesting options now in the pressure profiling areas including a Lelit of all things with a bonus-confusion feature paddle strapped to the top of it’s e61 head. It looks like any other bog-standard e61 but with a cute little diy bunnings hat, keenly looking for new and interesting ways to ruin your local roaster’s life. I do marvel... not so much at the electronics and gadgetry, but more the expertise required in not so many years from now to keep these bloody things running. If it was as easy as replacing seals and monitoring water quality I’d be in feet-first. But it’s not and the trickier they get, the fragility index seems to trend ever appreciatively upwards. It’s a going to be an expert senior electronics engineer’s playground (and price-tag) for service and repair which is a worry for the consumer.... They’ll certainly never be an isle for diy electronically actuated pressure profiling Tom-foolery in bunnings.... ;)
  • So many options.... The GS3 is amazing but $9k ish is getting out of range for most. Lelit Bianca (with manual paddle) is great at less than half that and soon there should be a manual paddle Profitec Pro 700 available in Australia. This isn’t confirmed yet but I have heard it’s on the horizon. There may even be paddle kits for retrofitting e61 groups. Again, not confirmed, but likely. That’s exciting !! :)

  • Here's my go to home machine La Rocca Express Spanish single group E61 machine - the internals aren't much to look at but it does have a 2lt boiler and 5lts of built in storage in the water tank which makes for 7lts of onboard water capacity - which is a lot of time between refills! Plus it makes great coffee!

    And I've modded with custom Pesado baskets, handles, and shower screens!

    No it came from a market stall at West End markets in Brisbane, and being an E61 the water seems to naturally cool a bit during extraction. I haven't done a temperature check but the coffee tastes good and it doesn't seem to run too hot - so that's a bonus !
    Also it has a synesso steam tip and plenty of steam power - takes me about 4 or 5 sec to make enough milk for a single coffee - so that's a bonus !

  • just bought one of these as a backup machine while Im waiting on parts for my La Rocca its not a bad machine quite temprementel at first but it makes great coffee once you nail all of the parameters !
