After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.

Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.

gas powered comercial espresso machines

does anyone know much about these and the systems they use to operate

    u still need lektrickery to run the controller side of a  modern esp machine. gas burners just sit under boiler. with most modern machines u wouldnt do that, the machines have evolved and there's lots of other stuff in there that would be the way or would be affected by proximity to flame path etc. suggest to do an internet search (for once) & see what comes up if anything. G.

    Nick, You are better off contacting one of the importers of coffee machines and order one from them, due to the spare parts availability and safety issues.   I seem these machines in the Middle East, think were Bezzera. Regards

    i tried to get one . rancilio makes a kit for their manual 3 group. turns out its not passed for use in aus by gas authorities and couldnt be imported. i know of 2 running units, dont know how they got the kits. a good gasfitter could copy the setup using local parts. cookon in bris could do an approval but the costs could be large!

    Surely you mean QGA, I mean Cookon, I mean QGA....it all gets so confusing what with a certifying authority operating out of the offices of the dodgiest manufacturer in Australia pushing agenda's and what-not. I only know two things for certain 1. A QGA certification will be spat on by any other state as worthless. 2. QGA stands for the (Q)ueensland lets push people into replacing their (G)as appliances with Cookon and make Ron Pattinson heaps of money whilst rorting an approval system (A)ssociation Ahh, that feels better.   Now having said that I am a gasfitter a would certainly be interested in helping out, do you have any information on these gas units you can send through?

    Small House - Flatwhite should keep more up to date before shooting from the hip, the QGA is part of the Qld Gov't and is directly responsible to the head of Natural Resources MR John Flemming who also happens to be the Cheif State Gas Regulator. Ron Pattinson was the president of the QGA up till November Last year but has since stood down from that position and a new president appointed. Having investigated a gas coffee machine myself, I can tell you Cookon is not interested in manufacturing such an appliance and suggest that a coffee machine manufacturer be approached. I have had plenty of experience with the Cookon Product for over 15 years and have found it to be equal to any other equipment on the market having had most of them previously and would recommend the product to anyone. Flatwhite seems to have had an issue with Cookon at some point which he should learn to grow up and see things as they really are and not what they appear to be.

    Sorry Decafe, I must have missed this coming up otherwise I would have replied earlier. QGA is an association or NGO, not a gov't dept.  Last time I checked you can't get membership of a government department. Ron stepped down because of the conflict of interest....what I don't understand is why it took so long. Cookon product...previously BVA Cookon used to be of reasonable quality however current products are made as cheaply as possible, and usually designed by reverse engineering someone else's products.  Why dont you ask them about warranty some time. My issue with Cookon is their corruptness in the early days of the QGA......the latest of Newsletters from the gas licensing body advises that Ron's offsider who helped him set up QGA has had his license revoked due to dodgy certifications.   So decafe, tell me how things really are. No wait, I have more, I'm recalling the time Ron addressed a group of people, of which I was one, on his plans for the QGA to conduct inspections on commercial kitchens. The idea being that kitchens would be randomly audited and any sites with appliances that dont comply would be forced to either repair, refurb or replace within a set timeframe.  Now being that Cookon supply some of the cheapest new appliances on the market you could wager that this could mean considerable increase in sales potential.  So why is this corrupt......well there are plenty of other gas appliances out there other than just kitchens but that was all he was concerned about because that was what would make him money.
