Bezzera Strega HX Lever Machine - Custom Mods.

Ok KK, the leaver is almost 75% done...

Have included the usual metal cap that you have become fond of...

so, where to from here...

A: Would like to get access to that other one to check out the recess.

B: Would like to get hold of a steam handle

Some time next week as this week and weekend will be very busy...

So work to date and due:

1: 1 x Naked PF

2: 1 x Lever handle

3: 2 x Steam handles

4: 2 x PF Handles

Now the while D has provided teh timber and it will never ever be had again, there is a major amount of work in this and each steam handle is like doing a Tamp Handle.  Let alone all teh hand polishing and waxing and polishing etx..

Fr those that do not play with timber... A quick coat of lacquer may be simple but it does not always suit or work out that nice.  4 or 5 coats and lots of rubbing back can work well.. 10 coats even better, French polish is often many many more coats and a good clean and dry area is a must for all methods...

I use an oil and wax method and it still takes me 5 to 10 coats and drying time in between etc... as well as polishing on the lathe at speed with a quality cloth to bring the shine up...

So at the end of the day, the odd handle may look OK but be aware in many cases a good few hrs spent on each item...

Many thanks AM I am flabbergasted  ??? ??? I will have & bring that heat seal for your roaster - you will have 2 types to chose from May have a trunk of wood as well for your stockpile? KK
  • Dropped them over yesterday arvo KK
  • Just updating with some photos How to make a regular brass - Porta Filter handle into a Nakid Method 1) Remove the current handle 2) Place metal part of PF into the metal lathe 3) Cut #1 - cut out the inner center  section 4) Cut #2 - cut out the 3/4 section 5) Cut #3 - Cut out the final section 5) Cut angle of face 6) Sand smooth This process can take approx 30 minutes Photos added of the process from start to finish KK
  • Does it then have to be re plated ?

Does it then have to be re plated ?
No it doesn't need to be re-plated as it only has a brass ring exposed in the underside Under normal use its not visible However if the owner wants to re plate it, they can do so KK
  • Just thought I would also post some photos of that strange timber / wood It is bright purple  I have posted a photo of a handle in the wood lathe & a photo of the shavings  :o KK
  • Above you saw photos of the making of the nakid on the lathe Here are a couple of shots of the pour using the nakid group handle Machine Bezzera Strega Lever  HX Enjoy KK Edit PS - I also shot a video but my face kept reflecting mirror like in the video So I will redo the video and keeping my face out of the picture Reason is that I am not very photogenic  ::)

May have a rough Lever Handle for you to play with... You OK to put in the 12mm threaded bar ? AM
I thought you were going to ask me after your busy schedule subsides, to bring the one I have now as a template If the hole is drilled I can finish the threaded rod KK

This is a 50/50 job...  With a stepped drill that recess could be a 30Sec job... This is sort of the style I was / err had in my mind and it may or may not be suitable.  But I believe it would be..  This  one also has some cracking in the timber. That stuff from D: may be old but it is also a bit brittle / fragile but you will get the concept once you see it.  How does 8:50am this Saturday morning sound ?  Will need to be a short visit and I may see if I can grab a tray of handles that you can drop over to your other mate :-) AM
Sorry for the late reply - had to go to the valley I will be there at 8.50 am KK  :thumb:
  • Mmmmm, old and brittle. Perfect description of how I feel at the moment. Got any pics of the cracking AM ?

I have some preliminary photos but I am not sure if you are going to see any hairline cracks In reality they look fine to me and would not have spotted any cracks until it was pointed out to me I have asked AM to just do a finishing sand as I plan to soak them in a sealer solution to be soaked in to the wood overnight KK

So how did the round head shot look ?
Well I will put a photo up, after its finished  >:D It does resemble something from the past as in an English military helmet (see photo) But it also could be viewed as something very erotic  :stir KK
  • I have decided to post a teaser  :-X Its a part photo, from the top section of the timber pull handle Actual total length is 190mm  ??? I request that you keep your replies clean ! KK
  • Looks great KK! Enjoy your woody!
  • Looks good on the I phone KK. The wife saw it and said "bell end" without any prompting from me :P AM, everything going great. Fishing should improve as wind eases

I asked for a trumpet end with a diffuser But the timber shattering in places eventually dictated the shape I must say that "so far" it actually fits very comfortably in the hand but still need to fit this timber handle on the machines lever and give it a trial I know that most like the mat/satin finish I like wet look - so that's how I am going to finish all the handles KK
  • Here is a lovely photo of the last coffee of the day Can anyone see the viscosity KK
  • Nice KK.  Very nice.  But how did it taste? With the Strega do you just need one pull for double?

Yes just one pull of the lever will do it KK
  • Nice gooey pour KK , looks about 20W60 to me

Yep... Sure can!  It looks amazing!!!  Have a great dy oth the family but possibly come home for the coffee... No where is is going to match that me thinks!  :thumb:
  • OK a quick update  :thumb: The longer timber lever pull handle is in my possession and trialling it as I post (as one does with our coffee obsession) Observations are 1) Very comfortable to use 2) Slip Free due to the curled upper section 3) Can use the thumb as a press rudder 4) Provision for the fingers to work with the rest of the hand The extra length provides a smoother " kink free"  action when the lever is actuated downward And it looks sexy as well  Here are a couple of photos  :thumb: One photo taken while using to show hand The other is just the handle by itself Thanks AM for a great job After the trial I will seal it and apply a wet look finish KK
  • Looks awesome KK. Gives me a little tingle seeing that timber turned into something beaut. I can give you the address of the donor house if you want to do a history of the handle  :D

I don't know what you are getting at  ;D  I have 3 older girls in the house and they haven't noticed or said a word about it  :head: KK
  • Mmm maybe they are thinking that dad is expressing his masculinity in a whole new way, either that or "don't touch machine 'beats chest' man machine" and that is proving it... :stir

Nahh If you see it in real life And at the over eye level height It just looks like a timber handle with a mushroom top - (no bull)  :-X KK
