After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.

Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.

Houston.... we have a problem....

Woke up this morning after a particularly disturbed sleep with the little one, turned the BZ09 on and left it for 30 mins....

Came back.... pulled a shot.... mmmmm sour and cool.... what's going on?

Further inspection showed that the grouphead alone was providing the heat... nothing from the boiler, boiler light won't come on.

So I've got to assume that the boiler element has blown, but how?

Yesterday's routine was the same as always: Pour my wife's decaf latte first thing then go back and do my own espresso shot. I had another three espressos throughout the day, no more milky drinks and topped up the water during my evening cleaning routine.

So I can't see low water being the problem... any other clues?

(Thank my lucky stars we have an aeropress in the house. It's not the same, but at least I'm caffeinated)

    Thats no good Kelsey. I wonder if AM has a element squirreled away somewhere. He should be able to give you low down on a test proceedure. Did it come with warranty from Chris ?

    A reply via proxi from AM on the road by mobile phone Probability of problem in this order 1 Water level detect 2 Brain box 3 Element and Thats what you get when you trash talking Android  :mad: P.S. - I was going to say a similar diagnosis (see my post below) I feel that its water level detect - its a safety feature so you dont blow an element

    This you can inspect & possibly fix yourself Its a probe on the very top of the boiler & may have some calcium on it It slides up and down inside its plastic sheath - so do it a few times If that does not work remove and sand the tip It could also be A pressure valve and after the probe I think that is the next in line culprit A self test for the pressure valve is Turn machine on Bump / Jolt the machine and see if the " ON " indicator light activates or flickers If so that's your problem KK

    For Cry-Sarkee blokes, I understand all are trying to be helpful but correct answer: .......please telephone retailer for advice & return for (possible) warrantable service. If anyone from the retailer / service agent sees that the lid or body has been off or something is not quite right on a machine brought in while still under warranty they get very very paranoid / nervous because they start to get an idea that someone has been in there fiddling, possibly caused a problem, then is trying to get away with a repoair under warranty..... Paranoid yes, but there are enough cases of people trying to get away with service when it isnt the repairers problem, at no cost, all the time. Dont complicatre the issue, straight back please!

    Thanks all for the input - no opening, sanding or vigorous jiggling will be taking place on this kitchen bench! I've re-seated the tank and given that a bit of a jostle with no improvement. Fresh Coffee  - there's zero chance of me wanting to open this baby up myself. I'm not that technically inclined! I'll give Chris a yell. Now.... is anyone heading up to Brisvegas from the Sunshine Coast today? :D

    :'( Here's hoping for a quick and painless fix.  In the meantime long blacks with a plunger and use this opportunity for some palate training.  Grean apples at the ready!  :thumb:

    I tried stuffing a green apple into the aeropress Brett, but it doesn't fit!!! Now... who has advice on how to get the best brew out of an Aeropress?!? Really wish I'd gotten a Presso while I was at it.

    The Presso is messy, fiddly and a whole lot of fun except if you reliably want a great coffee.  Fun as a hobby toy but if you want a coffee to drink quickly, easily and ... reliably... stick with the pump machine!  Now as the Presso owners get ready to flame me I'll sip an extraordinary double piccolo latte from my Diadema extracted reliably at 91deg made on Nicaraguan Del Obispo beans!  My robusta plunger at work today was awesome also and... No fuss.  The Presso was a gift to us as staff and remains in the cupboard.  What fun!

    I think I need to make a trip to Bris first thing next week. My better half is seriously unhappy about the lack of coffee... and while I'm getting a nice long-black from the Aeropress it's not spectacular. Oh well. It'll let me actually mature my beans for a change.

    Doesn't need to be drip - cold process in a plunger works for me. Can use anything that'll hold fluid overnight. I just use the plunger for simple separation of the majority of grounds prior to filtering. I've had some awesomely good long blacks from cold processed coffee.

    Just came home from our BBQ on the beach and in a fit of hopefulness  flicked the switch on Betsy. Got a flicker from the orange light which hadn't been there previously. Does this support the prevailing theory that it's the logic board?

    I did give it a minor jolt during the day - I'm leery of being too hard on Betsy - but no flicker. Not even a hint of the passion that was. :sigh:

    No, no, no, DX! If I'm going to upgrade, it'll be to the BZ07 - mainly because it's so close to the current machine I could just about sneak it onto the bench without raising suspicion. I think Jus might notice a lever tho. ;) I kid, of course. But only because she won't give give me access to the credit card. Wise woman.
