After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.

Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.

  • I agree its very heavy timber for the size So it may be very dense like a hardwood or similar KK
  • Definitely aussie hardwood from the east coast. I'll take a sample to my timber supplier and see what he reckons

Just to be pedantic (who me?), density of timber is not necessarily an indication if It is hardwood or not. Balsa is a hardwood. It probably is though.
  • Do I have any volunteers for the tried and proven "wolloping of forehead" hardness test ?  ???
  • Today I was kindly given by a admirer of my coffee and regular visitor to our home Some turning blanks Real Brazil Mahogany Piece 1) - 23.5" (59 cm) long X 2.5" (6.5 cm) square - should be good for a min of 3 handles Piece 2) - 12" (30.5 cm) long X 4" (10 cm) square ( I am not certain if this piece Brazil Mahogany but looks the same) Some other wood in similar sizes such as Spotted Gum and Camphor Laurel  well as a back up Photo 3 - large piece is Camphore Laurel Photo 4 - Stotted Gum KK
  • I an undecided if I should go with ? And I need a helping hand to choose Brazil Mahogany or Australian Spotted Gum ( Photos in above post ) I like the Camphor Lourel as well however it's not enough to do a set? But it would made for a handsome tampe handle or possibly 2 handles of differing sizes KK
