After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.

Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.

Sunbeam EM 6910 rubber seal

edited January 1970 in Espresso Machines
Hi forum
I recently replaced a few parts on my Sunbeam EM 6910. Silicon drip stopper, silicon drip spring and the rubber seal (blue).

Since the replacement the handle grip won't stop at a 90 degrees angle but rather go all the way to the end of the cylinder which probably reduces the right pressure.

Is this a know issue with replacement rubber seals? anything I can do to achieve stronger handle pressure (maybe a spacer?)
Thanks
Mica

  • Sounds like the collar is stuffed.  A common problem with these machines.  A spacer might buy you some time. AM who is not with us just for the moment will know more.  If it is the. Collar here is a great guide by really good guy on CS: http://home.exetel.com.au/waz/cs/EM6910_Collar_Replacement_-_How_To.pdf
  • Thanks for the reply. I will replace the collar and see how it goes before throwing the machine out the window and getting a simple Italian...-) Thanks Mica
  • I don't know the sunbeam, so may be completely off track, but if it was sealing fine before you  changed things, I would be checking that it isn't something about the way the new seal was installed. Perhaps it is the wrong way up, over compressed  or the collar is not correctly seated. If collar is worn/broken, I would expect symptoms before a seal change. Just a thought.
  • Thanks. The rubber seal can only be installed one way otherwise the screens won't fit. hanks for replying though Mica
  • I have the same problem with mine as well - I'm taking it to authorised repairers so I'll get back to you with diagnostics and a quote on repair... ACg
  • Thanks. I am a clean fanatic and believe me the shower screen, and all things around it are clean like new. I am one of those that like opening things up and DIY. Cheers MIca
