After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.
Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.
Hi there are DMMs that record temperature and log the data to a computer, for graphing etc.
there are DMMs that record temperature and log the data to a computer, for graphing etc.
I'm not that interested in computerising my data as the temperature control is still manual, ie, continually adjusting the gas flow/flame intensity to maintain a +or_ 5?C, and as I am only interested in a 250g roast, it really isn't worth the time nor effort to automate the system. I find that now I have a repeatable system, it is very easy and as you have said before 'FUN" roasting. How many posts does one need before you can post pictures? Cheers. Neill :thumb:

If you can see an attach " choose file" section under the text box, when posting - then you are right to go I think it's 5 posts ? KK
Let's try some pictures. Made the new basket out of thicker perforated steel, it allows more chaff through and burns away but holds more heat so I need to dump the roasted beans quickly to stop them cooking. I am very happy with the setup as it is all over and cleaned up per batch in 1/4 hour. I don't have a need for larger than 250g batches but i feel that a half kilo is more than capable of the unit. Cheers. Neill :thumb:
Hi all, My name is Ralf Hawley and I live with my family in Breaker Bay, Wellington NZ where I have been obsessing over the perfect coffee for the past 15 years. I've worked as a Location Sound Recordist for the past 25 years, starting my career in Melbourne and moving to NZ in 98. Work in Wellington slowed dramatically at the start of the financial crises in 2008 and my role in the family then changed to house dad and I finally made the step to roasting my own coffee. I have now taken this one step further with the recent purchase of a 3kg Stonka Mini Roaster and De-stoner with the intention of roasting coffee for my local neighbourhood. My Coffee gear includes: Dalla Corte Super Mini espresso machine, Mazzer Major Dosserless grinder, Blackbelt grinder timer, Stonka Mini Roaster and De-stoner and a Climax Bag grinder which I use for cupping. Regards Ralf
Hi Ralf, Welcome to crema! We've got a few musos on the board and I used to work for the dreaded SAE back in the day. We'd be interested to hear of your experiences with the Stonka as this brand was recently brought to our avid attention! K

Oh Hi Ralf welcome to crema! how do you find the stonka? I've been obsessing over the Stonka roasters recently - they look greAt! any chance you could post some pics in the roasting section and tell us a little more about your experience? Cheers, Pat
The Stonka certainly is a great Roaster. Very quiet, beautifully designed and engineered, Nigel has thought of form as well as function. Build quality is fantastic, it will probably outlast me and my son. ( Who's 6 at the moment) I checked out all the 3 kilo table top roasters currently on the market and the Stonka was for me the best bang for buck. Here are a couple of pics of my setup, can post more in the Roasting section. Regards Ralf

Welcome mate. Plenty of coffee lovers nd tradies here so you should fit right in! Get posting my friend... You won't be doing too much sleeping.
Hi and thanks for the welcome. My wife and I run a small cafe in the north west of Western Australia. This is our third business involving coffee and I must admit that I do not know as much about coffee as I should. We currently use a Gaggia Deco and want to buy another two group partly to better serve our customers and partly in case of problems. There are no service people within 1500 klms of us. On price we are looking at the Nuova Simonelli Apposition and I am hoping for assistance by forum members on our choices.
Welcome mate... There's more info here than you can poke a stick at and some of our members and sponsors are the best in the business! Enjoy the learning curve!
Hi there, I'm Allan, Im searching for info about expanding a current business and introducing coffee into a restaurant. Im aware there are companies that will supply the coffee machine at no charge inside the contract to purchase all beans, equipment etc. I was wondering who are these companies and how do they rate in terms of service etc? I just need a few leads so I can speak to the reps about what they can offer. Who to avoid? The location is William St, Kings Cross/ Darlinghurst Sydney. Thanks Allan 0414 492 822
Hi and welcome to the Crema forum Allan You have come to the right place that supports industry and enthusiasts alike Please start a new thread with your short list of equipment levels you require Alternately contact some of the long standing sponsors to Crema and to the coffee industry in general for assistance KK
Greetings to all. My given name is Rob, or Robert, whichever you choose. I'm a former CG (CoffeeGeek.com) moderator, and am pleased and honored to be part of this fine community. So far I've been enjoying one of the QM Achille threads. I'm friendly with a couple of the posters, both stateside and down under. I was one of the original beta testers for the Behmor 1600 roaster, and have enjoyed home roasting for over 10 years. (Still learning, of course!) I've owned the very fine QM Anita, a Millennium La Pavoni, and until recently a lovely 1981 '67 Olympia Cremina. Vario-W, and Preciso Esatto grinders, after owning a couple of SJ's. My younger daughter has several "Skype" friends in Adelaide, and is hoping dear OLD dad will purchase a ticket there (and, unfortunately BACK ) when she turns 17. I will eventually "man up" and post here. For now, I enjoy virtually meeting new friends, and getting a feel of the place. It's beautifully run, IMO. Sincerely, Rob J
A warm Crema welcome Rob We are very happy you found us as we are equally happy to have you We would be happy to answer any questions you have about our fair land and all things coffee, and hope you can shed some of you wisdom back our way Again welcome to the forum KK
Hi all. My name is Jonathon, I live in Melbourne, just around the corner from Foxy Brown, and no, I haven't tried his new Mirage yet, need to rectify that ASAP! At home I have a Rocket Giotto and use both a Compak K3 (for me) and a Rocky (wife's decaf beans). I've just picked up a Behmor and tonight pulled the first shot of my first roast, and it was surprisingly good after only 2 days. (ok it was actually my second roast, I ditched the first batch when I confused rolling 1C for 2C. Hopefully I can contribute a little. Cheers Jonathon
Hi All, Been playing the coffee game for nearly 4 years now. Learnt a lot from a 6910 with the grinder that came with it (forgotten the model no.), currently using Alex Duetto II v3 with Breville Smart grinder (that I want to upgrade very soon!). Roast my own on a modded popper - roast about 120g green per batch, up to batch #316. Usually drink small flat whites with the odd straight shot thrown in here and there mostly for cupping purposes. Live in Toowoomba, currently work as a stay-at-home Dad (they let me out sometimes ) and the odd paid job here and there when the timing works. Pete

Welcome. I'm the referenced "Very active member" also from Toowoomba - glad to have another Toowoombian on board.
Thanks for the warm welcome all. Special hi to RichardM (perhaps we can get together sometime and compare brews?) and to Lacehim - this is my 6th year on the home-dad job, so its really nice to know someone else here is in the same boat. Will pull my finger out soon and contribute some posts of substance (I hope). Pete
Hello fellow coffee lovers, I'm just another coffee enthusiasts from Brisbane. Just a thought that I should drop a hi to everyone. I have been wanting to learn more about coffee but I don't have extra cash to pay for barista training (it's getting really expensive). It's great to find this site where people are ready to share their experience and knowledge. Thanks to the admin and sponsors! Cheers, Harison
