After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.
Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.
I thought I'd already posted here, but I see that first posts are often deleted as an anti-SPAM measure (which is fair enough). I was posting via Tapatalk so it looks like I may not have gone about it the right way and my posted got trashed. So let's try again. I'm Leroy. I live in a small town/satellite suburb called Woodend that is about 15km north of Christchurch, New Zealand. I've been a member on various other coffee forums for some time, but as I get deeper into my coffee journey I'm always on the lookout for a new source of info. I've been lurking around and reading some interesting posts here for a few months and look forward to visiting more and more. Current coffee paraphernalia: Brugnetti Simona Top DE, Compak K8 Silenzio (Australasian model), Anfim KS, Sunbeam EM4800, Bellman CX25, Hario Skerton, Cona 'Classic' stovetop vac pot, Tiamo drip filter and a variety of smaller stovetop and filter brew pieces.
welcome mate. You have more 'coffee' toys than Father Christmas!
Welcome Leroy. It,s a friendly mob here. Enjoy your journey here. Have you thought about roasting your own coffee?
Oh yeah - and a Breville Crazy Popper with 2 can chimney for roasting. I'm a real noob roaster, I've only done 3 roasts so far. The 1st one was overdone and awful, the 2nd one underdone and not great, the 3rd one was a bit better. I'm just in the process of sourcing shorter cans as my roast time is too short, even with 90g of beans so I think I need a shorter chimney to stop it getting too hot too fast.

i get good results with my popper without the cans I just do it outside and stop it at the end of first crack!
Hello I am new here! Just move to Australia from a small town in Michigan in July and decided to continue the positive changes in my life by pursuing a caffeinated life. I have a passion for coffee and cooking and always dreamed of opening my own cafe. I completed my degree in accounting after years of working and going to school part-time only to realize sitting behind a desk crunching numbers is not going to make me happy, though I do have a passion for business and numbers. Here I am starting from scratch trying to learn about the industry and meet people who share the same interests. Being I am new to the country I do not know anyone outside my Husbands network of friends who are great, but I would love to meet new people who enjoy coffee as much as I do! My first step was to enroll in a Barista course, which is exciting to me ^-^. I have experience with stovetop espresso makers, drip coffee makers, and coffee press, so I think it's about time I learn! I've just received authorization to work and have just started looking for a job, I am hoping to find a job in a cafe, but it seems my background in office management is going to make it difficult to convince someone to take a chance on me. Fingers crossed though. Anyway, that’s a bit about me! :coffee:
Welcome NicoleAnne! Our Forum is a great mix of Professionals and Amateurs alike all with a passion for all things coffee. I'm sure you'll fit right in so get posting and let the Professional Development commence! :thumb:
Hello! I am a former barista and commercial coffee roaster, now a passionate home coffee roaster and brewer on the unending search of the perfect cup of java! Glad to be part of the community here!
Great to have another barista on board. Welcome. Askthecoffeeguy and I are baristas as well as home roasters. Will look forward to your tales of the cafe life. [emoji106]

Hi all, I'm Peter ... most of my friends and work colleagues call me a coffee snob (although, after reading some posts on here I feel I have a long way to go before earning that title!!). Currently living in Adelaide but I've lived in several towns in both Australia & New Zealand. I have a love of all black coffees, and my wife is getting sick of my coffee gear taking over her kitchen. I am just starting my journey in roasting coffee and I'm excited to see where it takes me!
Hi Peter and welcome! We're fairly laid-back here so get amongst it! I love this forum because I get to rub-shoulders with the very best coffee professionals in the country right here. These guys are as modest as they are generous and talented so ask away... The only bad question is the one unanswered! Did I get that right?? Welcome Peter!
Welcome Peter. Enjoy the forum. We all love our coffee here. Without it I would be miserable. It's my way to start the day. Half asleep I'm pulling shots and once tasted my day officially begins.
Welcome; this is the place to tell us a little about yourself... and even if you're not new, it would be great to have a bit of an update [especially for some of those recently migrated members]! A Hi there I am BP. I live in Nha Trang, Vietnam. Been here about 4 years. Brought my La pavoni over with me. Found good supply of beans. They are so cheap here, strong coffee too. I married here and we have a one 16 mth old boy, very cute. We will be opening a coffee shop on the beach where we live. Viet 'cafe-fin' is the preferred drip brew method but western style coffee drinkers are around. I want to buy a 2 group lever machine and looking to make a few comparisons. La Pavoni, Bosco and others I have seen on line. I have had my la pavoni for about 20 years so straying from lever action is never a question, perhaps not even straying from La Pavoni:). This intended purchase will be a bit pricey so I want to research and maybe find some helpful comparisons. Would any one have suggestions re lever action machine comparisons? Thanks very much... BP
Hi I'm just starting to have a bit of a look around here and things are looking great! Good to see some identities from other forums, too! So... I'm a teacher living in the Dandenongs with wife & 3 children. I got into specialty coffee when a place called Little Elixir opened in Mt D. It stayed open for one year only, sadly, but the guys changed my idea of coffee! I upgraded from a GC to a Pavoni Professional and a isomac grinder. Now I'm onto an hg one and and Alex leva. The classic is on the classroom bench with a lido grinder. Love doppio (single shots are what I call "a de-caff" ) I like cold drip and pour over too. Waiting on the arrival of a trinity one, which isa very exciting. Anyone else getting one of these? I'll get back into filter / cold drip more when it arrives. Thanks for Havin' me! SBM

Thanks everyone! Now for a sad story. My Alex needs a repair. Yesterday I was cleaning the group & letting water run through . My wet hand lifting the lever .... Slipped! it flew back up and has caused some damage. I'll take it back to Northcote for repair when I can . Nearly cried. Anyway. If you've got an unloaded spring lever, take extra care....For me . :'(

Oh dear! bloody bad luck SBM, I feel for you, hope it's not too serious, keep us informed.
Thanks. Will do. In the meantime, I've brought home my Gaggia classic (my main machine prior to the Pavoni) from school and the first shot I've got from it using the hg one was - too fast - but very promising. What a good grinder (and a couple of year's practise) can do! The presso will step up to save the day at school... Go, Presso (& kettle)!!!
