After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.

Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.

I'm new here...

  • Holy Toledo!!  That's terrible news mate.  Given the price of the thing there must be some redundancies yo protect moving parts.  Reckon it shouldn't be a biggie mate.  Thoughts are with you!!
  • Thanks. Fingers crossed.
  • Sorry to read about your Alex, at least the handle did not catch you under the jaw. Can you tell what sort of damage has been done ?
  • My jaw is grateful of that, yes! At this stage , I don't know the damage. It clicks, as though a bolt is pulling through a hole where it's loose. (That's what I imagine it to be , anyway). And I can see that the whole group pulls away from the machine if I go to pull it down . It pulls out a mm or two, but that's not pulling hard enough to actually even budge the lever. I dare not pull it any further in case.  I'm trying to work out how to get it in to Northcote... When all this is behind me, I'm gunna save for a roasting set up!!!
  • Hi all, My name is Michelle and I'm really new to the whole coffee thing - apart from drinking it that is! I've had a trusty Jura Impressa E75 for around 13 years now, it's even done a couple of overseas postings with me to Asia. I've just bought a beautiful used BFC Lira and am keen to round out my public service working week with a day on Lira, and hopefully change the ratio in a year or two! I read a lot of posts here when doing research for my hubby's cafe that we're trying to get up and running. He has a mountain bike shop and always wanted to open a cafe in it, even before we actually opened the bike shop! The posts here were always really informative, so I'm hoping that eventually, one day, I will have enough experience and knowledge to offer someone help like you all did for me.
  • Wow Michelle!  Welcome!!  They are both excellent machines you have and what a remarkably intelligent and informed choice to buy the BFC Lira!!  Lots of tips here and when you are an expert please continue to share your journey with us... we love coffee and coffee people.  What grinder did you pair and how many groups is the machine?
  • Morning Michelle, welcome to the coffee forum. Have to admit ignorance of the BFC Lira, not a name that come up frequently, Google took care of my knowledge gap, looks like they certainly make some impressive machines, Brett has asked the first questions that came to my mind re number of groups and grinder you are using with it. A photo of the machine would be of interest. What type of espresso drinks do you make? Sound like you and your husband have a pretty full schedule, good luck with the cafe, hope it all goes well. Hope to see you here frequently, keep us up to date with your coffee journey. :thumb:
  • Hello and welcome Michelle, from a fellow female BFC owner  :coffee2:.

  • The Lira is a 2 group, grinder is also BFC branded (MXA) but fairly certain it's Macap. Will try to remember to get a photo tomorrow.
  • We love piccies, well I do any way  :P.
  • welcome michelle - ive owned a couple of BFC' both domestic and commercial, and they're solid, reliable machines capable of producing excellent coffee! Pat
  • This is my beautiful Lira, and there's also a glimpse of the Saeco Talea too, ok so we have a few more machines than the BFC and the Jura, there's also a one group Breville.....
  • Omigosh, she is beautiful. Thanks for sharing :).

Very nice looking machine Werks, the bullet proof Mazzer grinder is no slouch either. :thumb:
  • Fabulous looking machines.... Is that Macap BFC stamped??  Tricky!!
  • Great piece of kit, more than capable of handling birthday parties or any large group gatherings. You could even start your own cafe. [emoji3] [emoji106]
  • Hi guys, am very excited to have joined this wonderful forum. Thanks for having me A little about myself, I was lucky enough to have grown up with coffee around me my entire life. My grandfather owned a coffee farm in Borneo near summatra, unfortunately he is no longer around and sold the land as a result. Both my parents have been coffee farmers/pickers in their various stages of life. My mum use to gather Kopi luwak in the wild as a small girl for extra pocket money . My dad has also farmed coffee back in the day in Lismore. I was born in the coffee growing highlands of PNG in a place called Goroka. Have had a few odd barista jobs whilst at uni. Corporate and family life took over but have now had a real urge to get back to my roots per say and live the coffee dream. I have just started home roasting on the behmor. My oh my is it addictive! Not enough hours in a day!!! Look forward to getting to know you all and hopefully contributing something meaningful through my coffee journey .
  • Welcome WV!  Great to have you here.  Many of us are active home roasters so get amongst the posts mate!
  • Hello and welcome West Village  :coffee2:.
  • Hi guys, I'm a coffee enthusiast and home roaster from Melbourne. I post a bit over at cs. You seem to be a friendly bunch over here, nice to have a forum where you might be able to post a simple observation without being told a hundred different ways you're wrong ;) Cheers
  • hello and welcome! yes were pretty casual in this neck of the woods and we welcome a diversity of opinion what equipment are you running with at home? I roast on a behmor plus and my home machine is a modded rancilio epoca! best, pat
  • Hi Pat, I believe we've met actually, did you have foxy brown in Northcote? I was friends with one of the baristas, I'm from hawke's bay if that jogs the memory.  I have a bfc dual boiler, currently paired with a robur. I've been through single boilers & commercial machines but I think the bfc will stay for a long while. Also have a moccamaster, hario syphon, chemex etc you could say I'm a bit of a nut! Roasting on a correto, using a Bosch gun and breville big loaf, I'm pushing 1kg roasts, but can also go as low as 600g.(maybe lower, never tried). Have considered building a kkto but, irrational as it sounds, I don't want to learn a new roasting process.
  • Welcome SD A KKTO can be used with a heat gun if you wish Due to the flow through design of the heat source and better agitation you get a better more even roast So when the BM breaks down you can build a KKTO  :thumb: KK
  • Hi guys, just a quick welcome to Abid Kashmiri, who's joining us as a member (just getting his registration through) and a sponsor - see his boutique green bean thread under Sponsors called 'CoffeeCurators'.
  • Great stuff!  Welcome fellow Brisbanite!
  • Hi Brett and Coffee Forum community, Thanks for the welcome! And thanks KK and A. from admin for setting it all up, much appreciated. :) Apologies for the delay but I am now up and running and look forward to this new venture. I'm in my early 30's and have been in the coffee/cafe industry for a little over 8 years. The necessity for work whilst at uni was what started me on this little coffee journey. I think it is a great industry and community and look forward to getting to know you all. Cheers!
