After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.
Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.
todays effort Nicaragua Santa Finca Rosa, Natural coffee so slightly slower ramp up then driven into first, dropped at 14:58 @ 201c Ethiopia Yirgacheffe Kochere, Grade 1 fully washed coffee A little more heat through this roast 15:04 @ 204c Ninety Plus Ethiopia Hachira 2 N2 only a kilo roast so a little more air and lower heat dropped at 13:45 @198c
Looks good Chester..... I will be tasting 2 of them soon I must say the Mexican 3rd wave roast I have been drinking is a really fantastic bean! I drank most of it as espresso too the natural melon Fruity sweetness is just perfect and I like the body and dark crema
The Rwandan is a lot lighter, the picture just turned out dark for some reason. I pulled it a bit earlier than usual but that's what happens when your juggling the kids and roasting! lol. I've been trying for a few lighter roasts anyway after chatting to you, so it will be interesting to see what they are like in the cup.
png whagi - cant go past it for consistency in roasting at the moment plus it tastes great in the cup - with wild berry and forest floor aromas on a plum pudding infused palate!

I still have some AA from ash. Great bean, and was one of the first I roasted my own coffee.
Roasted a few days ago, Yirg Kochera for some forum members , Nicaragua Lupululo which is a great coffee and nice to roast. Finished with another 2kg's of the new bean on my shelf - Costa Rica Granitos de Oritz, loving this coffee, very different, with amazing flavours of toffee and golden syrup combined with a nice buttery mouthfeel. A perfect afternoon in the roastery was had, with the added new water views due to the flooding. Chester Sorry for the bad photos, phone did an auto update and the camera has changed and it's rubbish.
Just roasted 500gm green of Jeffs freebie Ethiopia Harrar Longberry. I found it rummaging in my beans. Lol. A bit dark maybe but still getting used to my new TO that speeds things up a bit! Lol
Crickey Lacheim... That one is threatening antique listing. How is it?? I've roasted a special blend of 300g Sumatran with 200g Yemen to just on 2nd crack in the KKTO. Only 3 days ld and couldn't wait. A bit fresh but so good already!
It's resting still. And oldie maybe, but still look ok, and kept in a cool dry place. The Honduras COE was pretty old too, maybe 4 years? I think it was the 2011 variety but tasted perfect. Loved that bean. I find little gem's like that when my stash got shoved behind the Christmas guff in the cupboard and I didn't get to roast for a while because I didn't have the energy or willpower to tackle getting it out! lol. All solved now. But just got some Yirg from Chester via C-Man to try. Should be fun.
Excellent! I remember the MyCuppa Harrar which was a generous freebie. I'm not a huge fan of Harrar but that one was stunning! Seems to be standard with MyCuppa offerings.
I went crazy yesterday! Went to roast and got fed up rummaging around in a box full of half empty bags. Here's the blending results, a end of bag blend. 8) Blend 1: Ethiopia Yirgacheffe Gr2 wash 260g PNG Wahgi AA 255gm Roasted that one, 1C in 10mins with a preheated KKTO! Man this new TO is fast! slowed it down and pulled on 2C so a bit darker than I wanted. Not what I intended but that's what you get when you juggled monitoring kids and roasting. Blend 2: Indo Sumatran Mandheling Kuda Mas 285gm Costa Rica Herbeza Estate 320gm Roasted this one second 1C in 10 mins (the old TO would have been getting there at 18!), and got all cosmic couple on this one, reduced the heat and coasted it for 3-4 mins and pulled before 2C. It looked pretty good. Yet to roast are Blend 3: Brazil Daterra Estate Opus 1 Exotic 125gm Java Kalistat 2010 25gm Panama Hacienda La Esmeralda 170gm Blend 4: Finca El Injerto Capadocia Caracol 155gm Ethiopia Cuji Sidamo 135gm PNG Wahgi AA 285gm So, some bloody old beans there from when I started roasting but kept in a very cool, dark area (where Harry Potter lives) and hopefully will be fine. Worse case they taste like rubbish, but even Jeff's old freebie is still ok. Still got a 1kg or so of that left! Who knows if I got any decent blends out of all that lot. I just threw together what looked nice in my head! A total experiment!
Good job Lacehim, keep away from that SC :D :stir, all of them sound fine but if they are three years old or more there maybe some hard baggy notes from where the fats have absorbed things from the atmosphere and the lipids and bean structure have started to break down. You may get away with the Sumatran roast with the more earthy notes masking it but I think the fruitier coffees may not be as forgiving. At worst you have practiced your roasting technique on the new turbo oven, spring cleaned clearing out the old beans and had some time for yourself. Win win :thumb:. In the end as always see what happens in the cup. Chester
Yeah that's what I though Chester. If it doesn't work out no loss I'll use after cleaning my machine and move on to the next bag. Or Palm it off to the neighbour who drinks supermarket preground. Haha. He's always happy with free coffee. I'm trying to roast a little lighter for a change but as you know when your roasting if your not 100% concentrating things can go very wrong very quickly. I am loving roasting again but I think I might have to grab another bag of your yirg that you did for Craig if you have any. It was really nice. [emoji6][emoji106]
Morning in the Roastery, love the smell lingering outside. Costa Rica Granitos de Oritz, loving this stuff, the golden syrup linger is amazing. Central A blend Ninety plus Hachira, filter style hipster roast for V60 and cold drip for a friends birthday being held at the Roastery next week.
