After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.

Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.

  • That's bloody nice. The ribbed (for her pleasure) taps are quite striking!
  • I'd stick the little pointy ones in the drawer and forget about them  Maybe use them for earplugs. Great lustre on the handle
  • Brilliant!  Me next!!!
  • Just need the invite Brett  :D

Huge weekend ahead of us.... I've roasted some of Beangreen's latest COE special today so they should be degassed by Thursday arvo after 3:30 if you're around.  Any time before 6ish unless you want to get dinner for the kids  Gotta tell you... the wife had her misgivings about the 'handle' but she's admitted that she likes the feel and is glad of the knob on the end because it helps your hand not to slip off.  Her words as God is my witness!!!!  Once she realised what she'd said she went redder than a beetroot and said if I facebooked that she'd cut off my nuts.  Lucky she's not a Crema member eh... or is she... ???
  • Copy and paste, copy and paste :D I'll try and get there about 3.45

  • Two projects currently in progress in our workshop. One photo shows mystery machine No1 at first look inside before starting any work. Machine has some "nice" (and I believe quite acceptable if an older machine is to be placed back into service) mods under the bonnet where they cant be seen and therefore dont infringe on the original look. This one wont be "rechromed" or "newified", its condition is good enough that cosmetically it only requires a clean up and will look great in virtually as original form. The condition is as it was pulled from a fully working cafe environment about 8 years ago. The second photo shows some "bare bones" work we have done to mystery machine  No2 which is in "bottom of the harbour" condition. The brass bits are leaning on the machine's boiler, the over pressure valve is also lying there. The rest of the machine is all over the workshop in various stages of repair, and the body will need to be rechromed (unfortunately). I prefer good original if old condition, to "I restored it to within a millimeter of it looking as if it came off the production line this morning" condition, because the kind of finish you can end up with today is far superior to the original new look and can just make them look too new.....destroying the old world charm. Dont take any notice of the rubbish pods at the back of the photo. A client supplied them for testing purposes of their notgoingtomentionthename pod machine that was brought in for repair work.  It's income, and we dont turn hard earned away...
  • OK, i'll play since no-one else has had a guess, mystery machine no.1 looks to be an old Boema, can't figure out mystery machine no.2, maybe some more parts pics? I'll also attatch a pic of a home lever i picked up recently, but awaiting delivery
  • Mystery machine number one. Is that "CREMA CAFE" on the perspex? I have seen one of these before, but cannot remember the manufacturer. There are photos of this machine posted elsewhere on another forum I believe......
  • Seeya, I was thinking of a La Carimali, but not the model you referenced to. I do recall Fresh Coffee mentioning that he had a lever that he "might" be persuaded to part with, on a thread somewhere her, but memory fails me as to which machine he referred to. He did say it was in good condition, so it might be this machine.
  • Maybe this will help convince you  :)
  • spot on. But I also remember the following machine in his midst: 2 group La Cimbali Granluce
  • Yes the "Crema Caffe" perspex is the giveaway on the Bo_Ema... The other is not the Granluce which will have to wait a while. Decided to start on another one that we have. We are a bit miffed as to how we are going to get any parts for it as it is extremely rare. Cant even find a photo of it to help with the resto. Note rarity doesnt mean anything is worth anything much....just that something is rare! Although if we ever decide to sell it, I guess we will hope that it fetches a nice price.  At this stage, no plans to sell either.

Wow, WTF is that hand grinder ? Home made jobby ?
OE Pharos.  Great grinder and with a few mods even better!  On Home Barista voodoodaddy has some mods that make the Pharos really shine.

OK, I'll bite, what is it?  Home made?  Probably, but what did you use for seals???
  • Its the ES-2, a hand made, bespoke, kettle lever made in Holland. I have one of the pre-production models coming in the next couple of weeks. Have a look on HB, there is a thread on it there. Here is his website, http://www.espressostrietman.com/#home
  • Thanks for the info/tip! That is an interesting little machine and with enough wall space next to it a Spong could be mounted and then the morning brewing routine would resemble something out of Capt. Nemo :thumb:  I like it :thumb:
  • My initial delight at finding this 3 gp Izzo Pompei at the Criniti's  pizza bar in Castle Hill,..was tempered by noticing the 3kg can of Italian roasted Izzo beans on the grinder. ( just hidden behind the lever  handles )   Since they seem to have a deal with Izzo. it may be worth checking out the other Criniti's ( Wooloomooloo, Manley, Dln harbour, Parramatta etc)  to see if they are also kitted out with these impressive levers . imag0135f.jpg
  • conikal, I remember reading somewhere that Chris at Talk Coffee no longer sells the Izzo Pompei with the curvy sides like that because Izzo demanded that he sell their coffee (he has his own brand).  It seems that they are packaging the machines with their coffee only, so expect the same elsewhere you seek out these machines at coffee shops etc. Nice machine, but it is a shame about the companies attitude to bundling beans & machine.

It seems that they are packaging the machines with their coffee only,
That is quite likely the case for the commercial/retail arrangements as you mention,..or it may simply be the usual bean supply &  lease m/c, type of contract for cafe's. ..however, their site    http://www.izzo.com.au/products/espresso-machines/  lists a domestic ( single group) m/c and i cannot imagine them expecting to tie a domestic user to a bean supply contract. Also i doubt they would turn down a outright commercial m/c sale for the sake of a few kg's of beans ?   Anyway , its good to see more commercial levers in use locally. I just need to figure out how much the those Italian beans affect the result in the cup !
  • Chris had definitely reported that Izzo was not really interested in supplying domestic machines - at least in Australia - and restricting sales of the new Pompeii to commercial premises with bean contracts. IIRC the old model was still going to be available to domestic purchasers. Then again, it was awhile ago and policies do change.

so is the 1 gp Pompei listed at $5500 on their site the old or new model ? ..what are the differences ?
  • If it looks like Galumay's red beast it's the new one. If it looks like a fairly normal Italian block of stainless it's the old.
  • Well , im pretty sure its the latest version...PID, "styled" coloured side panels , etc... ..and there doesnt seem to be any catches for purchace with a simple "basket" check out against a credit card # ...and only $10 for delivery !! Somedays i really hate how convenient the internet is ! :tearhair: [img][/img]
