Picked up my wiper motor today. $20. Will post photos as soon as I can. Need to see if I have a spare transformer lying around and pop down to Jaycar to get a plug.

Hence the reason I offered you an older type driveshaft at cost Its done like this - 1) See the nut on the motor - tighten it down so it does not work loose 2) place a 1/4 inch drive socket on it - this allows the square section to face towards the shaft 3) calculate the distance / gap required for connection without a need to cut the drive shaft down And you have a roaster KK

I can see how most of that works Paul. I'm looking at the drive shaft on the KK site now, but I'm having trouble picturing how it connects to the roast chamber pot in a way that the drive shaft and agitator stays in the pot?

The shaft feeds in from the underside of the perforated pot It has a flair so it stops at a certain spot The blade is fitted from the inside of the pot and its locked in to place All it can do then is spin The springs work like a flexible pendulum bearing See photos

Paul, in the first pic, the blackened wider bit of the drive shaft that's right on the bottom of the pot - is that the flare you mentioned? If so, I see now how it works, but don't recall that being part of the drive shaft you showed me the other day?

Yes that is the flare but we also use a copper washer as well Its supplied as part of the set KK

I've found a 12v 4.5amp power supply in my junk boxes, so now I'm hunting around for a 'quick connect' between the motor and the PS. This site has an example: http://monsterguts.com/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=103 I've had a look on Jaycar and only saw 'female spade' ends, but not an entire cable as per the above link - i.e. female spade ends, cable and power supply connector. Is there anywhere else I should look or a way to achieve this without soldering?

Totally agree! For once, it's not about the expense - it's a U.S. site so I don't know if I'd get it before Christmas! Ideally I'm looking around for somewhere locally I can get it. That site is almost ideal for our purposes in many respects too - they've got some great package deals.

It's apparently not possible to purchase that cable pre-made in Australia. Or at least, in Caloundra!  ;D But I have acquired all the bits to re-create it in an even more useful fashion: Rather than sacrifice the power supply by permanently wiring it to the motor, I've decided to go for a plug-and-cable system similar to KK's design - which is superior for mobility, safety and replacement of parts. I've got two minor roadblocks at this stage:

[li]I don't know which is the ground, high speed, low speed and (I assume) parking terminal[/li] [li]I don't have a soldering iron any more (and any skill died around the time Dick Smith stopped selling electronic kits) :D[/li]

The motor will run both ways So there is no right or wrong way to connect it My units run anti clockwise I also did a similar thing with my original roaster where I used a cordless phone cradle KK

That's very clever. I like it a lot! Will this need to use the ground terminal? I only did it like this because I saw the plug on your KKTO. It makes for a safe, portable and compact design.

Today was fun, but a mixed bag in terms of overall success. Having a play on Lacehim's Lusso was a revelation. My next upgrade will be a lever. Watching the KKTO roast was great - such a simple process. Actually building the KKTO was enormously satisfying and hanging out with Lacehim made for a fun afternoon. However no actual beans managed to get roasted by my KKTO The build went well, but there's an issue with the motor. Here's the first test: [embed=425,349] Not exactly 70rpm!

Make sure the agitator rotates counter-clockwise or the agitator will be cupping the beans instead of agitating Looks nice so far and apart from a motor issue that is not your fault it should be up and running as soon as its sorted out  :thumb: Most of the windscreen wiper motors rotate at 55/60 RPM KK

Thanks KK! Despite it not working yet, I'm really happy and excited about the project. I've got the plug that connects the powersupply to the motor configurable so I can switch which leads connect to which terminals. This should ensure that it can rotate in the correct direction.

Brand: Random cheap asian from a no-name LCD computer monitor. Power: 12v 4.16amp It's in good condition. Not sure about the motor, I'll have a look when I go downstairs.

[embed=425,349] Success! Had a birthday bash to go to in Bris tonight. My BIL, also attending, is a sparky. I asked him to bring his soldering iron, multimeter and curiousity. It was a grounding problem - no issue with Michael's wiring at all. I need to get the drive shaft aligned properly, but after that we're good to go.

Ah there you go.  You will have to show me what you fixes Kelsey buy some new bolts too.  I doubt those littles ones will be any good long term. Happy to help with anything.
