After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.

Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.

I'm new here...

Nice kits. Expensive, but nice. I put the parts together myself for the gaggia - doesn't look as elegant, but it still made a heck of a difference to the shot consistency
  • I bought the pidkits.com one as I heard that the instructions were easy to follow. They were good so I was able to do it myself. I think my coffee is better now

    Hello everybody (First Post
  • Welcome Brett Now thats what I need to get beck into again, Photography I have a point and click Canon 850 IS digital, but my other gear is still 35mm film Need to try my hand on a DSLR again but there is to much choice ? and harder than coffee KK
  • That's a good introduction Brett I for one don't have a problem with long posts as long as they aren't offensive and everyone here seems to keep things civil.
  • Thank you all for the warm welcome.   Dry Bean, I am truly envious of your rock hound past.  My skills are only in their infancy and any opal rough I've had is only Boulder or Matrix although I have a small Honey Opal that I am excited about cabing in the next week.   KK, I'll have my Camera at the Cooper's Plains 'Try a Bezzera Lever and KK Roaster' on Saturday so you can have a play with it. Thanks again and I can't wait to get involved!

  • G'day Derrilex (Alex), Nice to see you here and welcome.  I am also a recent defector and just love this forum.  We can be honest and discuss coffee things without worrying about certain brands or retailers demanding posts removed.  The quality of information here seems far more expansive and interesting.  The posts are not hamstrung by over zealous commercial alliances, retailer/brand over-protection, and from my reading thusfar, professional jealousy.  All in all it's a pretty relaxed place to read and post with the added bonus of all (bar one) of my favorite contributors from another site being here!
  • Hi and welcome Derrilex to our friendly forum I have similar qualifications in the motor trade (Euro cars) with the a few years stint in heavy industry KK
  • Morning and Welcome Derrilex, good to see you over here. - great coffee ;) - moto gp ;) - fishing / boating ;) All good for me. ;D
  • Thanks for the welcome everybody. I dont pretend to know much about the black art of espresso so my posts may not be the high on the techo stuff but they will be funny - I cant help myself sometimes.
  • Brett, hate you  :P I love my rocks, have done since I was a kid, and I can see a few that might interest me :D I share your photography passion, I have a D50, we also have 2 D90s in the family, my father is a small time pro and it seems to be hereditary :) ROFL I have to laugh about your comments about posts being deleted, I have a feeling I got half the BDB thread wiped yesterday, I have no idea why  ::) Also welcome Alex :)

Oh trust me it wasn't you  ::) Welcome Alex & Brett too  :)
  • Oh really BF, damnit, no I'm kidding  ;D
  • SS, sorry about the temptation but for what it's worth you have great taste! El got our order through tonight and that one is a beaut!  As for the photography we also have family who are Nikon peop,e and one black sheep uncle who shoots Canon. Now we all know that the brand of camera is largely irrelevant and what matters is the composition and use of light but it really is fun to attempt to make him feel inferior  ;D. I watched the other forum thread and BF's great post get locked and disappear yesterday just by fluke. That sight really has slowed recently and if it disappears at the current rate there will be a hole in the interweb with a green hue.
  • LOL well thank you very much Brett. I know about the ribbing, I have a good friend that only uses Canon, we continually rib each other about our camera choices.  I just wish that Canon lenses fit Nikons, then I'd be right :D On the other thing, I think Andy is great and does a lot to get out there what is good, that is why I still post over there, it's just unfortunate that the other things have to happen.  It's so blatantly obvious, like someone posting something in the sponsor section to make sure that someone elses new post can't be seen instantly when people enter the site and they click on it to see what they are offering. Mmmm I think I've drawn the line in the sand with that comment.  Oh well enough from me, sometimes you just have to shake your head and walk away.

The great thing about Nikon gear is that 40 year old lenses fit and work on the new digital models just fine(at a fraction of the price of new) I have 40 year old  nikkor lenses (I used with Nikkormat FT2 bodies) that knock the newer stuff into a cocked hat, AI does not work but if you know what your doing that's neither here nor there. My daughter uses Canon and is constantly lamenting the fact that lenses are not interchangeable, having said that the shots she takes are every bit as good as what we get with our Nikon's. ;)
  • db that's what I love about my D50, it can actually use the old lenses as they were made to be used.  My father has given me one of his expensive at the time SLR lenses that yes his D90 could use but because the D90 doesn't have the same function that the D50 has I get better use out of it. Sorry I have a migraine and can't remember what it is specifically, something about the motor or lack of function of one in the lenses. Ahh I know the ability to use the AF lenses.  It's what mine has that his doesn't :D I don't think I'd ever upgrade, I also have 'shakey hand syndrome' LOL so the lighter D50 suits me and I just have to buy the more expensive lenses to help with that. Oh forgot if anyone wants to read reviews on all the cameras in the same place Ken Rockwell site is the place to go http://www.kenrockwell.com/index.htm

Hear what your saying SS, I tend to use my D200 in manual mode most of the time so the lack of auto focus and AI matter little. A lot of people don't like Ken Rockwells reviews, however I've always found them pretty helpful. Hope the migraine resolves itself soon. :(
  • Hi all. I just found this forum yesterday. It's nice to see some familiar faces again. Looking forward to some lively discussion on all things coffee. Nico
