After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.

Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.

I'm new here...

  • Thanks KK. Have just uploaded a sample to your thread about the latte art. Gary at G
  • Hey guys and girls! I'm not so much new here as i am revisiting. I have come from THAT other site with the nazi-admin... you know what im talking about :) Anyway... i got sick of dealing with the crap on that other forum so i think i might spend a bit of time here... i see some familiar faces(usernames) but i don't know if i will use my usual ID for now. Cheers guys!
  • You could always use your original one  ;) We are trying to keep it fairly relaxed and positive here if we can. So welcome back  :)
  • Been lurking for a while, stumbled across this place because of a sponsor. I've been on the coffee journey for about 3 years now after discovering that instant is not coffee.. From large lattes with 3 sugars to now my daily double shot in the morning, a double/picollo/short mac in the arvo depending on the mood and whatever takes my fancy when I get home. Roasting at home using the I-Coffee Roaster, I've stock piled about 20kg of green, I love beans from all regions and enjoy some more than others, my espresso pallete is still learning but I'm enjoying the road. Taking a trip next month to KL / Phuket and my kyrocera / aeropress / roasted coffee will be travelling with me :D why drink coffee you won't enjoy when you don't have to. Still learning everyday, It's true that if you catch the coffee bug it can consume your life and coffee is high on my list :D Cheers, Ros
  • Welcome Extraction Point & Ros Great to have you as our newest Crema members KK
  • Welcome Ros and EP. We tend to be a friendly bunch who are actually here for the coffee as opposed to spruik a company line.  We do have sponsors but they tend to be the very best people, as well as being consummate business professionals.  Please get amonst the posts. I haven't yet read an uninteresting post on this forum yet!
  • Hi all.... Well, you can all blame Brett H for my presence here! He and I studied together 20 years ago and just this weekend had a wide ranging discussion about espresso machines, grinders and cammo-coloured coffee forums. It was extremely pleasant to catch up with an old friend and discover that they share one of your passions. That said, my faur
  • Welcome Kelsey, great to see someone else living on the Sunshine Coast on the forums!
  • Thanks, Lacehim. I'm loving being back on the coast again.... If you have any recommendations for where to source local fresh-roasted beans, don't hold back! I've been heading up to Yandina fortnightly to get mine from Pioneer.
  • Welcome Kelsey Great to have you on this great forum Its lucky that you have Lacehim close as he can roast you some for you on his home roaster and if that is not practical you can visit Pioneer Roasters KK
  • Welcome kelsey. If you are without means to make coffee right now, try cold processing a batch and strain through a paper towel in a sieve. Will provide the necessary coffee hit in the morning. Or alternatively try greek/turkish if your grinder goes fine enough.

Thanks KK - Brett H has graciously offered me some from his next home batch, which I'm looking forward to, but I'd never say no to a roasting demo either! I've been visiting Pioneer every other week to pick up supplies. I'd just opened a fresh bag of their latest Kenyan - it was that shot that blew out the group seal!

Fortunately my better half has made the trip up the coast to a supplier who has some group seals in stock. Phew!! I'll be back on deck this arvo.
  • Hello there Kelsey.  When you are down our way next I can give you a popper and some greens.  They are a great way to examine all the changes that the beans undergo when going grommets green to brown.  Welcome and nice to read ya!
  • Ah thanks Brett, that'd be great!
  • Kelsey, Pioneer is still my favorite place on the sunny coast.  The coffee is always spot in, and fantastic beans.  I got 4 bags for my birthday too!  lucky me! :)  There is also Costa Noosa, and Clandestino Roasters up this way.  http://www.clandestino.com.au/ in Noosaville.  It's very good, and they are the new kids on the block.  They do make syphon chemex etc which is different, and also sell beans (but I haven't purchased any because they have them in big buckets just in the right position for all the customer to cough and splutter all over!  ??? )  There is also Signature roasters and he will deliver to your door but I think you have to buy 1kg, and that was a bit much for me at the time http://www.signatureroasters.com.au/ I'm always up for a coffee and a chat so let me know if your up this way. :)
  • Thanks for the info Michael - will do!
  • Hi, i am new to all things coffee even though i  have been drinking coffee at cafes for a long time. i live/work between Newcastle and Sydney. recently got a sunbeam grinder and sunbeam em 6910 espresso machine. also have acesss to a aeroprerss and pour over pot. always up for trying new cafes and meeting new people.
  • I have to ask, are you female? :D I'm in (well out of at present) Newcastle, hence the question. LMAO you have almost all the same things I have and I actually chose the EM6910 over more expensive machines :D
  • That is great, i would like to learn on how to get the EM to perform at its best. currently making decent coffee, i am very happy with the milk frothing but my mate reckons it could be better if we adjusted it a 1-2 degrees higher. i have had similar results with aeropress, pour over and an old Sunbeam too so maybe i will get better results once i am more capable of operating it. 1925g97_20.jpeg note: image taken from the web and not of actual machine. Re: Shape Shifter no i am not female
  • Oh dammit LOL Don't get me wrong I love the guys on here, and that is a genuine comment, I'd just like to find someone local to have real coffee with and fiddle with roasting stuff and stuff, when I move into Newcastle I'll have to find someone to convert :D Oh I'm female in case you haven't looked at the avatars so I wasn't being creepy and trying to pick you up :) You can have a look at my blog if you like, it might give you some tips about the EM6910 as well as the actual EM6910 thread under 'espresso machines'.
  • Its alright, i understand, sorry cant help you, my wife isn't into coffee otherwise i would have put you on to her, you are welcome to try and convert her though  :D thanks for the link will try it out.
  • Welcome AliG From a former Novacastrian  ;) KK
  • Hi all, I am a newbie to here either. Still a member in CS, but also found a lot of unbias info here too. I have EM6910 for a while, and kind of upgrade to another machine which is not popular in Australia so far (GEE, made/design in Taiwan). Start to be a home popper roaster for few month, just jump into Corretto(BM/HG) laterly since my friend has a broken one. Hope to enjoy more here. Colin

Hi Colin and welcome!  You'll like it here. We are a friendly bunch who enjoy robust conversation and if you don't like something about a product you are allowed to say it out aloud and have a robust discussion.  Also, posts don't tend to disappear (more's the pity in my case).  Today at work I was a little teapot and then a big black train and then a snail... That's right, I'm a corporate banker... Not.... truthfully I work with little kids for some of my working week. Tell us a bit about yourself and just as importantly how about a review of the Gee.  I had a play with one yonks ago but would love the inside info of someone who lives ith one.  Welcome!
  • I am just going to say Hello Colin & welcome to Crema forum (insert hand shake here)  ;) KK
  • I'm with KK, I think AM and Brett may have freaked Colin out a bit  :o  ;D Welcome Colin, this place is a good read.
  • The GEE seems to be going ok in the US, it's called a Crossland, someone tell me I'm wrong about this but it sure looks like the same machine to me. We are an odd bunch so I'm sure you'll feel welcome, oh not saying you're odd or anything but as long as you are honest you'll fit in :)
  • Welcome Colin, the more the merrier around here...  ;D
  • While I've been on Home-Barista for quite some time, I came across this friendly spot while searching for a GS, and found Ronin up to his elbows restoring one. Right now, I'm living vicariously through his posts, trusting that a suitable machine will come my way when the planets align. I'm in San Francisco and have great memories of spending time in Melbourne many years ago on a few business trips. Past my first "real" Guinness, a pair of R.M. Williams that fit like a glove and lasted me a decade, and the great hospitality, my most vivid memory is waking up, horribly jet-lagged, and making it to breakfast. There I could get with my eggs either bacon or "lamb cutlets." Little did I expect what I'm used to calling "prime lamb chops" as a side dish! I was sold... Over the years, I've been through a range of equipment, with the current stable being mainly a K10, Bunn G2, Quick Mill Anita, La Pavoni Professional, and a not-quite-dialed-in Quest M3 roaster. Our Poodles love foam, and I'm hoping to get them to learn how to pull shots next. Please forgive the hours of my posts or tardy replies, I'm clearly in the wrong time zone. Thanks for the welcome, Jeff
  • Welcome Jeff We hope that you contribute to Ronins / GS restore thread Both to ask questions or to solve a problem KK
