After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.

Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.

I'm new here...

Hi, I'm Rob started the 'make your own coffee at home' journey about 6 months ago.  have a couple of family members who have been doing it for years and it slowly rubbed off. i am a bit of a 'near enough, good enough' type person so you may think this attitude isn't compatible with coffee making, but as long as i like what i'm making, and i have the basics close, then thats all i worry about. i have a em6910 paired with the BSG.  did have the 0480 but found the steps too large between grind settings. other useless info, i'm a printer by trade, working at newstyle in adelaide (printing crema mag no less [sssh]), and i love my fords. i don't expect to be able to contribute too much in a technical sense but i've already enjoyed the reading.  i must say, i was attracted here by a member by the name of Anger Management.  when i bought my machine my brother sent me a link to a list of things i need to know and that was written by AM.
Welcome to the Crema forum Rob Yes member AM is a fixture in the coffee scene and often gives his time, knowledge, and spare parts selflessly We hope you become a regular participant in our vibrant forum KK
  • Hi Rob and welcome.  Many of us found our way here due to the AMs and KKs of the coffee world.  Get posting mate, we're a friendly bunch and we warmly welcome new members.
  • Hello everyone! I have been a follower of this forum for a good few months now and never thought of registering to post anything because there is just so much info about coffee in general that i didnt need to. But I thought i should do some posts now to share my coffee experiences. Basically i started building a KKTO style roaster and doing  home roasts with EricS for a good few months now. For my first post, I just want to say a big thank you to KK, UNM and and the other forum members for helping us with our KKTO build and giving us good advice on roasting our beans. We are starting to get a grasp of it and our home roasting is just getting more and more exciting every week. Hopefully we will be able to share some of those experiences with you all. Cheers Cikay
  • Welcome Cikay!  Great to have you here!  :thumb:
  • Hi, I'm Glenn, and I think I have already met some of you in person! I run Coffee Forums UK, a coffee lovers forum started a few years ago before the boom really took off in the UK. Originally from just south of Auckland, I moved to the UK over 10 years ago and love the proximity to Europe and easy access to great coffee equipment and dozens of roasters on my doorstep. I help arrange the UK Coffee Competitions which feed into World Coffee Events, and also photograph competitions around the world too. I'm looking forward to being a member of this forum
  • We welcome your membership Glenn Hope you become a regular contributor  :thumb: How about I dub you Cremas foreign corespondent KK
  • Hi Glenn - are you the lucky bloke reviewing the Loninium lever espresso machine?
  • Hi Glenn and welcome.  I am eagerly awaiting your contributions here after reading your Londium review!  :thumb:
  • Welcome Glenn, It's nice to see someone else using a Vario too! :)  How hard is it going to be to prise that Londinium lever out of your hands when your review is done.  :D
  • Many thanks for the very warm welcome received. I look forward to contributing long after I give the LONDINIUM I back to Reiss in a couple of weeks time.
  • Hi all, I have stumbled across this forum after doing a search for information on mobile coffee vans.  I have signed up for both a personal interest in coffee and for business reasons. I have been interested in coffee for a number of years now.  For about two and a half years I have really become quite interested in the science of coffee and making a really great, consistent espresso.  I am a home coffee maker currently and am not involved in the coffee industry at all.  I have trained under Brian Raslan and did some work experience with him briefly a couple of years ago.  This is all the work I have actually done involving coffee and customers.  My current job as a tradesman (Toolmaker) does not allow me to do anything else unfortunately.  I'm paid too well to just give it up without some heavy research into the industry and whether I can cut it in the hospitality and service industry. I have a Rancilio Silvia v3 and Rocky doserless grinder at home plus I am teaching myself how to make pour overs using a Hario V60.  I have really enjoyed using another brew method and my family and friends have enjoyed trying something different too. I hope to find this forum both interesting and helpful in getting some great advice. See you all out there. Mikal
  • Welcome Mikal, I'm sure your find plenty of info here.  It's always good to have a dream, especially if it involves coffee! Hope to see you posting and asking questions.  Don't be scared, we're all a nice friendly bunch.
  • Yep post away, good to have  you here. I recently got started with pour over, so will follow any such threads with interest. Limited time myself, but now that I have one project out the  way I really should invest a little  time in improving pour over technique. We can learn together.
  • Thank you for the welcome! Nothing really to say about myself. I have absolutely no experience or knowledge about Coffee (other than buying it) and was just going to have a read, see what I can learn. I've just been given a espresso machine and want to get the most out of it as I can. Other than that I work in Childcare with a group of littlies under 2 (up to 15 of them!, with 2 assistants) and start at 6.15 each morning. If I want a coffee at that time of morning it has generally has to be instant, a pod coffee or McCafe :( I can't wait to get a decent cup out of my little machine. Michelle aka skymija :)
  • Welcome to the Crema forum Michelle  :thumb: Find a thread or start a new one on your particular machine and ask the hard questions The friendly members will only be to wiling to help and assist you to get that perfect cup KK
  • hey michelle/skmyija. there are options other than instant.  french press doesn't take that long. Aeropress is also really fast. For a basic instant coffee, make some cold processed as a concentrate, keep in the fridge and dilute with hot water in the morning.  As quick as instant and much more pleasant IMHO Feel free to ask questions or post your opinions - they are just as important as anything the rest of us might have to say.

Spot on UMN  :thumb: Welcome Skymija!  Preps are as low as I go in my teaching... Until I get home  :tearhair:  15 sub-two year olds eh.... You may need to make your cold press coffee using vodka in lieu of water  Welcome!
  • Ooooo another female, welcome, instant is shite and you won't meet a better bunch to learn from  ;D
  • Thanks. Found this forum while looking for a replacement drip tray for my EM4800. Over use and a reluctance to clean it after every use has left it severely corroded and all the chrome plating peeling of it. I saw some cool and interesting posts here and decided to rego and stay while. I get my coffee beans from Cafe Bianchi in Leichhardt normally. I get it delivered as I don't get in there as often as I used to. Looking forward to learning more about coffee. Cheers,
  • Welcome Flyerone, If you've got any questions get posting. :)  Have you ever thought about roasting your own?  I was amazed at how easy it is and it's very interesting because you can try many many different varieties of beans. :)
  • Just joined this well set up forum, reading and learning a fair bit about its operation and support, seems to be a good bit of knowledge out there, thanks to all of you experimenters and tinkerers! My son introduced me to the delights of coffee makers about two years ago,as some members have already said "doesn't matter what sort of coffee machine one uses,it's the coffee beans that count towards the final product". My coffee machine is a cheap >$50 model that never stops working and with nothing but clear rain water, never seems to need a clean out. Just got a old sunbeam EM4800 that needs some work to take me to the next level, some seals etc and it will be good. Thanks for the welcome,I hope I can be at least half as good a member as what I've seen /read so far. Cheers Mick
  • A very warm welcome Mick.  :thumb: Lots of people from all walks of life are members, with positive sharing we all benefit So jump right in to the forum posts and participate so we can learn or share with you KK
  • Welcome Mick.  You are spot on about the quality of the beans being the most important factor to a good cuppa. Don't be shy, we're a friendly bunch so jump right in!
  • Hi all Well my coffee journey started a couple of years ago, loved my kitchen and thought it deserved a shiny coffee machine, one problem I didn't drink coffee. The finance minister said no coffee machine unless I drink the liquid gold.  2 weeks later I had a breville on the bench and a rocky grinder, my first ever coffee was an espresso  :coffee2:. Upgradits has been a couple of times and my kitchen now has a nice Alex Duetto ii and a mazer major. I am a Captain at a urban fire station on a nasty bit of highway in Queensland which has helped me have a great appreciation for life.  I am an avid climber and mountainer and have travelled to some pretty amazing places on the planet with my partner Amanda pursuing this and learning about other cultures along the way. I love coffee and am always in pursuit of perfection, im ready to take the next step and embark on roasting, so today I hit the buy now on a 1kg roaster  ;D Let the journey begin and please may you all share your knowledge with me. warm regards Chester and Amanda
  • Welcome CC Your going to love this hobby that doubles as a journey It's also a hobby that actually gives something back  :thumb: Come in , sit down , have a coffee and chat a little KK
  • Thanks KK Looking forward to lots of advice. We have met and chatted before, a couple of years ago down at Chris's shop, you gave me some help on perfecting my milk on a Bezzera.  Learned a lot since then but still a lot more to go. Chester

Well I hadn't until I came here. Looks like some great information on this forum. Thanks for the warm welcome.
  • Welcome CC!  You have had the bug bad... What a fabulous way to cure it  :thumb:
  • Hi! My name is Mo. Have been enjoying making coffee for about 5 years. Grew up in The Dandenongs, living in Melbourne atm. I'm always wanting to learn more about, roasting, machines, grinders etc :) Cheers :)
  •   :stir  :head: HI          Have been a coffee drinker ,black & strong for 30+ years .Moved to espresso making around 10years ago with basic machines .Finally upgraded to Bezzera in 2011. Tried all pre roasted beans but could not find a suitable flavour .Along came Baby FZRR700.Sourced greens and both hobby +passion began.Learnt to roast by time -colour which has helped my exsperience and led me to modded BBM Correto then KKTO.i have now converted Tiffany turbo top to be able to use commercial heat gun (airflow-heat electronically controlled) as heat source. My other interests are gardening and granchildren plus coffee. After a series of operations my sporting interests were curtailed. As you can see coffee and family are my source of enjoyment.                                                         Thank you Barry&Kath
