After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.

Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.

I'm new here...

Welcome Ben!  Get ino the threads mate... There's lots of un-censored open discussions happening.  Perhaps even a machine review would tickle your fancy.  I don't think nyone has done the GPP yet despite it being a popular machine.  You'd be more than qualified to tell us about living with er, her?? Welcome!
  • Hey there, I stumbled across this site the other day and have found it extremely helpful so far as I start my new journey for the new year.. 18 months ago I was a driver for a Mobile coffee van in Brisbane, I thoroughly enjoyed my job and since returning to NZ I have been contemplating getting myself set up to have my own business.. I would love to hear from anyone that has done just this with the low down on all the pros and cons that i will need to take into account.. To be honest I would turn up to work in the morning and the van was ready to go apart from topping up the usual bits and pieces..I wish now that I had bothered to take more notice of the complete set up of the vehicle and the running of it..as now Im in the dark alittle..We have just purchased a vehicle for which we are going to get all fitted out, what we would really appreciate is any advice anyone on here could please give us into doing just that..Thanks heaps.. :)
  • G'day mate and welcome!  Use the search feature in the forum to search out some fantastic recent threads on just this topic.  There are so e great posts by Fresh Coffee and Gary at Gala just to name two of many. When you are all set up and making a fortune we expect nothing other than pictures and to have a chance to say congratulations.  Stick around... There's lots to see and again, welcome!
  • Awesome...thanks for the tips on how to find my way around the site..I will check out those posts you mentioned..I will definately post up pix once all set up..would appreciate the feed back on the finished product..its a work in progress but its gunna be worth it.. Can anyone fill me in on the way in which you set up water tanks in your van..obviously fresh water and waste water and needing to have a basin with hot water for council requirements..im  alittle in the dark on this..obviously you have an external water outlet in which to fill up..?? any info greatly appreciated..thanks guys.. :coffee2:
  • Welcome to Crema sub- ju If you have a list o questions - or a van fit out you should start a thread and we can all contribute  :thumb: KK
  • Hi Folks Long term coffee fan & recently upgraded from 15yrs on a La Pavoni europiccola to a Rocket Giotto PP V2, wow what a great idea :lamp: loving it! I have even converted the non-coffee drinking girlfriend to start drinking coffee. I really like cooking, sourdough bread baking, & making (standard & whacky) ice creams. I work part time as a Community Palliative Care Nurse & live part-time in Bathurst & Sydney (work). Got the roasting bug a little awhile ago & have been roasting on a popper, & now looking to upgrade to something bigger & that will yield better results. Look forward to learning & the sharing ideas/experience's of those here. Cheers

  • Hi I love to drink coffee. I discovered coffee when I started working full time in Sydney eight years ago. I've never had a deep interest in brewing or roasting my own coffee simply because I never had formal training and time in the morning. But now recently married and our impending move to our new humble abode, I'm really excited to buy my first semi automatic coffee machine and brew my first coffee. So looking to learn and share experiences with everyone here. Cheeers
  • Welcome to the cult of the highly-caffeinated! So you're on the hunt for your first machine? What did you have planned? Got a grinder picked out?
  • Welcome to the wide world of coffee for new members. It is a exciting journey.  :thumb: The second highest traded commodity in the world. Here is where we all discover there's more to instant and we also realize how easy it can be to make your own quality cup of coffee which can be a break from visiting your local cafe and you can make your own at home. This is where we old coffee fellas n ladies can guide newbies on their journey. Have a read. Ask questions. No questions are dumb. If you don't ask, you may not know.  ;)

welcome aboard mate! some say the grinder is the most important piece of you coffee equipment something to consider when getting started, the first thing I bought was a good grinder and just a plunger then from there I changed machines a few times but always had the grinder.
  • Hello! I've wandered here from the other forum (as it seems to be named) in an attempt to find other sources of green beans.  I did my first corretto roast today and waiting for me back home is a new Silvia and K3T.  I do love my aeropress, though (I've bought four in total, one for home, one for car, and two as gifts) and I am trying to spread love of coffee amongst my friends and coworkers.
  • Hi Hildy! Glad to have you with us! We have several site sponsors who supply green beans at very reasonable prices. Most of us here are also roasters. I personally have had great experiences with both Ministry Grounds and Bean Green - you won't go wrong with either.

+1 adding to the welcome that I have purchased from all of our sponsors and they are ALL brilliant to deal with.  I too was a Coffee Snobs forum member Hildy and I enjoyed it and them very much.  Sadly I only have so many hours in the day and as good as CS was, Crema is better...  So I now live here.  Welcome Hidly!
  • Thought I should say Hi. Names Whoosha - got it from a basketball training session where I took out 2 of my own team mates in scrimage games. Got the taste for home coffee making about 2yrs ago with my purchase of a Sunbeam EM6910 and EM0480 grinder. Still have them but upgraditus is taking hold, only thing holding it back from actually occurring is paying for school fees. I got the feeling this forum is great source of information and a great group of like minded people. Although I am not quite as passionate as most on here. Married - still on 1.0 - i dont know how she can put up with me. Kids - have 2 Grew up on the family farm - wheat, sheep, and pigs. Nothing like family slave labour, although it was some of the greatest times of my life (so far anyway). Came to the big smoke for final years of school and uni. At Uni I enrolled to do accounting, failed the first unit so decided to do Marketing. Like many Marketting graduates I  ended up working in a call centre. Worked in banking for 15yrs, most of that managing projects. Then did a couple of years consulting/contracting and now look after wood poles for a utility. Hope to fix up my tired (and neglected) old EM6910 - any tips/help would be great (doesnt backflush - blockage of calcium etc i suppose due to me neglecting it. But I want to make amends - I have started by now  supplying her with filtered water out of a Bombora set up. Whoosha

Isn't this the other forum? Also sometimes known as 'boat rockers' for historical reasons Anyway, welcome all.  Seems a few corettos are sneaking up on us. Nice to have a bit of variety in the roasting methods
  • Hello Everybody My name's jevvv and I live in EnZed  ;) I love coffee made from ground beans rather than powder or granules so first I had a plunger (caffitiere or whatever in England ;) ) then I got an ElCheapo on FlyBuys points about 12 years ago... managed to make passable coffee in it until it got so scaled up it wouldn't work.  No I couldn't descale it as it was a cast aluminium something internal works :)  Resigned to being back with the plunger until I picked up a cheap stovetop moka style pot.... unless we were on the boat, then it was a scoop of grounds in the bottom of the cup, pour hot water over then wait for them to descend - and still refusing the instant. Finally, for Christmas and birthday all rolled into one, and having to share with the rest of the family I now have a second hand Breville BES860 - not fab but WAY better than the Sunbeam I first had ;) Other than coffee I'm a stay at home mum nearly completed home educating our two kiddos - one is moving out this weekend to work in the city, in travel; the other is now doing the study portion of year 1 electrical apprenticeship and hoping to find a job, meanwhile building with dad.  We also board a student or two from the local highschool. We live in a fantastic part of EnZed, houses and shops handy but beautiful views of the sea and the 18 acre park next door.
  • A very warm welcome to the Crema forum Jevvv We have many NZ expats on the forum and I am sure you will feel right at home KK
  • Hiya :) I'm a Melbourne boy at heart, but I've been living in Brisbane for the best part of 8 years now, with a stint over in Canada working cafes. Much happier to be working back in the Aussie cafe industry now though. I work at Java Coast on George street, and with some awesome coffee and workmate to learn off, my skills have come a long way in pouring :) When I'm not there though, I'm in an office building working out of a kitchenette cafe. Lots of downtime to hone my craft and populate instagram. Planning on having my own little set up one day... one day. So yeah, looking foward to learning lots and chiming in on threads  8)
  • Welcome mate!  :thumb:

I have a Brasilia 3 group that I'm restoring at the moment. With a lot of TLC I'll have her up and running soon, then it's a question of setting up everything else for it haha. At work I'm on a LaMarzocco GB/2 with Mazzer Grinder.
